I bought this as I'd given my old paperback copy away. This is a great textbook for the study of European history from 1815 onwards. Still current today.

Perfect! Took me back to university days. He is a great and witty author nothing dry in his history telling. The period was complexed and he handles it with great care. The supplier of the book did their job great so thank you.

A level/High School/Undergraduate history book. Very good, very interesting. A Classic!

For any student studying late 18th and 19th century European history this book is essential reading . It gives enough background information about why things occured and links major events in such a way that the reader learns how major events connect together. For a student of modern history( 20th century) they would gain a good grounding on how the colonial expansion of the European powers in the middle and late 19th centuary caused tensions which were a major cause of thje First World War. Id aim the book at 'A' level history students and also at first year First degree people.4 stars because there could be slight changes, but a very good read .

Excellent book even if quite old, but scarily relevant to Europe today...Arrived in fair condition but value for the price

Still reading and it meets with my expectations. This book really captures the social, economic and political progression from 1815. A must for the aspiring historian on European affairs - easy to read, with good indexing. It has been around for a few years - but my favourite.
