Solves Biting Fly Problems!!!
We live on lake in the Midwest adjacent to several acres of bog. Eliminating standing water to reduce biting insects is a non-starter! Starting every year around June, we would run the 500 feet from back door to dock with towels over our heads to protect ourselves from the biting flies. We started using bug balls about 5 years ago with amazing results! I remember hanging the first one and seeing a deer fly get stuck as I was applying the Tangle Trap coating (I've also used Catch Em' since with equal success). Talk about satisfying!!! Currently, we hang bug balls on extra tall shepherds hooks every 150 feet or so along the edge of our property (adjacent to the bog) and almost never see a deer or horse fly . . . unless it's stuck to the bug ball!!! Placement should be after the majority of the pollen is gone and the biting flies are starting to appear (early June where I live). We made the mistake of putting them out early one year and pollen coated the balls, rendering them completely ineffective. Clean up at the end of the year is easy as long as you're OK throwing them away. It is possible to clean them off with paint thinner . . . but yuck!!! I've used both the spray and brush on versions of the ball coating. Spray is MUCH easier to apply, but I think the brush on works better. One can covers about 2 balls. I keep some in reserve to recoat the balls in late summer. Black is my color of choice. It effectively catches both deer and horse flies. I tried the blue ones last year. While they did give a few of my neighbors an endless source of amusement, they seemed to be less effective at attracting the flies in my area. In summary, I can't recommend this product enough for anyone having issues with biting flies!

Works as it should - just don't forget the sticky stuff
This works great - Best advice buy early to get a headstart on the bugs. At the end of the season you can clean them off deflate and use them next year. We got the sticky stuff and it worked great.

Deer fly control!!
Anybody who has deer flies needs these!!! This blue ball is the only thing that works for deer flies with the catchem spray. I have used other spray with unsuccessful results. These balls are extremely effective. Put the blue balls out the beginning of April. It is amazing how fast they collect the flies. The hook that comes with this product is junk however, skip the hook go to tractor supply and get your own hook. The hook that comes with this product is screwed together in sections and extremely weak if the foot stakes don’t break the other sections will before the season ends. If I had to review the hooks, it would get a zero star, but these balls and spray get 5+ stars they have improved my horses life greatly. I have found the black ones work towards the end of the (july august sept )season when the big horseflies start to come around they look a little different than the deer fly. But they still don’t work as good as the blue ones. I have taken this color and into consideration when purchasing all of my horse tack, including fly sheets for summer and avoiding it

Good solution, but has a major flaw
Catches lots of horseflies. Then they bite the ball and the ball deflates. Comes with repair patches, but in order to repair all of the super-sticky glue and dead horseflies have to be thoroughly cleaned off the ball. Then the flies bite through it again. I wonder if making the material thicker would stop this from happening. If so these would be a 5-star solution, but otherwise they are only good for as long as they can stay inflated.

Better Idea
Not very effect product. A painted blue cup / garden pots for plants works IMO a lot better. Need to coat the cup / pot with tangle trap sticky coating. Place cup / pot over a stake about 5’ above the ground. Works great for deer flies. I also use the cup on a pole attached to ATV to keep from getting bite.

These Really Work
Bought them this Spring with the spray on adhesive. Bought a couple shepherds hooks and hung one near our pool and patio and the other out back in our field. Beginning about end of June we are pestered with deer flies and horse flies. These things worked amazingly well. They were essentially maintenance free. Probably possible to scrape the dead bugs off and reuse them, but I bought a couple replacements in case I punctured them while cleaning. They are pretty thick and tough and I didn't break them, but they worked so well I didn't want to take the chance and be without them next season! You have to place them appropriately and experiment a bit for max effectiveness and the adhesive is extremely sticky if you touch it, but well worth the price.

No way to inflate
The only thing that came with this product was stems to use to inflate. I don’t have a way to inflate these, and I’m not gonna go spend another $20 to do it. Also, if you’re going to put the stems in the box, you should put them in a tiny package because they were all over the place and I almost couldn’t find one of them because in between the box fold. Also, apparently we’re supposed to add some sticky thing to it. Again, more money to spend. No thanks.

Perfect! Use "Blue" Balls NOT "Black ones!
Important lesson from this buyer: Purchase the "blue" balls and not the "black" ones for catching "Yellow / Deer flies"! I used the "black" ones last year, and I caught 2-3 out of 30-40 "yellow flies" here in SC! I ordered the "blue" balls from this seller per the Sellers page and they sent "black" ones. (Disappointed). Contacted this Seller and he quickly responded and sent me the ones advertised. (Applause!). He stated I could keep the others, which I appreciate, but they don't work so unsure what I can do with them until maybe Halloween. :) The blue ones were up for 2 days, after applying the stick'em paste you have to buy separately, and it caught more than 30! Within 1 week it was covered with over 100! So happy! I can walk to the mailbox now! FYI, I used fish line to hang it down to recommended height so that it would move in the wind easily... which is very important! It makes those flies MAD to no end! Researched value of blue being the correct color and a state university completed a long study and proved that the "BLUE" ones work! Good luck!
