It covers the history, the heart - spirit - body ethos before Part 1 of the book on Watching Sumo, everything from purchasing tickets, ranks, ring entering ceremony, rules, techniques and much more. Part 2 of the book focuses on the stables, food, referees, workmen etc and Part 3 is a Sumo dictionary of words and terms. I love this book
If you've ever bought a book from Japan, you'll be familiar with the size; it fits in the hand. I'm honestly very pleased with this book: it details the sizing and construction of the ring, the many techniques, the viewing experience of watching a live sumo match. As mentioned in the description, it is in Japanese and English, and if anything, I would say that it is more for a Japanese speaker learning English than the other way around. The Japanese text is of course top-to-bottom, right-to-left, and the English texts are reversed (right page 1, left page 2 and so forth). However, as an English-speaker learning Japanese (no hands are held), I can happily say that this will be a great help. In short, I wanted a book on sumo, and what I have received is not only incredibly informative, but especially useful for those looking to learn the language. Highly recommended, and well worth the price.

Excellent, comprehensive guide
I've been a sumo fan for several years and I've read other books in English about sumo. But this one is the clearest and most comprehensive guide that I've read. Every aspect of the sport from sumo stables to ring names is clearly explained, it even includes five recipes for chanko. Highly recommended
