Great little door opener
I bought this directly from the manufacturer's website as it's a bit cheaper there. Their website has several video guides and PDF instructions for setting it all up, so I was able to get familiar with it before ordering it. I've been using the VSB door opener for some time and found it overly complicated and unreliable, so when the VSB unit finally stopped working I thought I'd try this one from Titan.First impressions are that it is well made, cleverly designed, and easy to install and set up. It takes a bit of work getting the pulleys in the correct place and getting the weight of the door right - I'm using a reasonably light aluminium door with 4 pulleys for the cord run so I needed to add weights to make it close correctly - it does need a fairly heavy door, as a light one will not close correctly. It's very important to understand how it works in order to get the cord length and pulley runs correct, but this is clearly discussed on Titan's video tutorials. Removing the VSB and modifying everything for the Titan, then fitting it, took about an hour and a half, and probably a further hour to set it up, check it worked, and add weights etc. (Note that he VSB was mounted inside the coop, whereas the Titan goes on the outside so some of the pulleys needed changing round)After using it for a week or so it seems to work really well and I'm pleased with it. The ability to quickly change the settings is good, and having it outside the coop makes it easy to access and keeps all the chicken dust and mess out of the workings - probably this that killed the VSB unit. I have it set up to open at 9.30am and close at 9.30pm, though I'll probably change to closing at dusk once the summer is over. All in all, very happy with it and I have six safe and content chickens - five ex-bats and a white Maran that are loving free-range life on a Welsh smallholding!

Excellent product slightly spoiled by housing design and fitments.
This is easy to set up with clear instructions, the display is very clear and logical. The core electronic components and the winding engine are really excellent.Fitting it is a different matter, as so often happens an expensive item is let down by cheap screws. They are slightly too long and hidden in the screw housings which exacerbates the almost inevitable rounding out of the screwdriver slot. There are only four so unless your chicken coop is on a flat surface free of debris the risk of loss is great. The cosmetic "roof" is a waste of space especially if, like me you have small chicken house. The battery housing was designed by an idiot, two separate bays that don't retain the batteries. As you move to the second bay the ones you've installed drop out, worse, if you are programming (you do this with the front removed) at least one set will fall out while you're doing it and don't even think about installing the unit with the batteries loaded. You need a door weighing over 300gm otherwise it won't work, and the door needs to slide freely. The one they sell is really superb and worth the £25, I bought one when my home made effort failed the above test!Despite this it's worth getting if you follow these hints: Get yourself half a dozen better quality screws and put a piece of cloth under the installation site to catch the drop outs. Drill pilot holes. Don't program it until it's in place (the device comes with the nylon line wound "up" for height positioning) and put some sellotape across the two battery bays to keep the batteries in place.Mine is now installed on a purpose built board fixed to the front of my coop, it works brilliantly and I no longer stagger out into the garden blearily tripping over things at "oh my god it's early" in the morning.

Great auto-door opener for happy chickens
Fantastic quality product, ingeniously designed to fit discreetly to our hen house. It really does work well - either with the automatic light sensor, or with the timing functions.Really easy to set up, and the build quality is really good. Extremely happy with the design and would definitely recommend - now we don't have to worry about getting up at the crack of dawn!! Great buy.

Even better than the original.
Had an original Titan opener which has proved very reliable and amazingly the 4 AA batteries lasted for years so very pleased, but recently it became difficult to adjust the timing, though I was still opening and closing fine. Had a look at other openers on the market then came across this updated version of the original, the original was good but this new design take things to a new level at this price point. All the old weakness have been taken care of, battery compartment is now separate so no risk of batteries falling out when adjusting. The buttons are now external, so no awkward cover to take off, and this model is programmable with timer and light sensor so really then Rolls Royce of openers at Ford prices!

Unreliable
Easy to install and set up. Other than having to alter the time every week or so, because it doesn't keep time well, it has been running ok. But 4 months on the electronics have started playing up. Changed batteries just in case, but no good. Screen goes blank. Pull batteries out and back in, reset timings and clock, then stops responding to buttons. Only way to set anything further is to pull batteries out/in. Not reliable.

Another useful feature is the override facility meaning you can open ...
handy gadget for allowing poultry in and out of the cote meaning obviously you don't need to be up at the crack of dawn to let them out or around at the death to lock them up. This gizmo is invaluable if you work unsocial hours or as in my case have to leave home very early to attend hospital appointments on a regular basis. Another useful feature is the override facility meaning you can open or close the pop - hole door before the set time. the battery life indicator is another useful feature. In summary - simple to fit and operate and invaluable if you are regularly "not around"
