I use them for ice skating outdoors and when I fall, I land hard on them. The first pair lasted several years and I was not easy on them. They saved my knees many times! Eventually the connection points between the hard shell and the fabric tore out, one at a time. I recently bought a second pair. Within a few uses, I had cracked the outer shell of one, and the connection points began tearing out of the other. Not sure what accounts for the poor longevity as the usage is the same and they seem identical to the first pair. I really like that you can wear them inside or outside garments, that you can slip your leg into them or tie them around the outside of your leg, and that there are four connection points to hold them securely. I find them comfortable enough worn over winter pants.
