Oven Rack Guard Double Pack

A good housewarming gift
I love buying these and gifting them for new homeowners. They’re super easy to snap on to your oven racks, they’re a good thing to have if you’re constantly burning your wrists pulling things out of the oven (me), and they’re easy to take off and clean. I’ve had a set of my own for years and they’re a nice thoughtful thing for others that don’t cost an arm and a leg.

two different quality rack guards
I ordered two sets of these guards. When they arrived I had one set of rack guards that came packaged in a bag that were white and thin, and one single one packaged on a piece of cardboard that was shorter but much thicker and off white. After contacting Amazon I did receive another one to complete the set. My problem is they are two different qualities. The longer ones are much thinner and don't protect against the heat as well as the shorter ones do. I tried them side by side in my oven. Then, because I was giving a set to my daughter-in-law, when I washed them, the longer, thinner ones shrank and now it doesn't fit as well on the oven rack. I have owned a set of these for years and I loved them. Other reviewers are right that these darken and stain over time, but they do such a good job that it doesn't matter. However, I bought another set because I have a new stove and wanted new ones to put on the racks. I am very disappointed that when ordering a replacement for myself and a set for my daughter-in-law that I got two much different products. There is no picture of the guards when you order them, so you have no idea if you are getting the good ones or not. If I hadn't already owned a set and had only ordered one set I wouldn't have known the difference, but I do know how the good ones work. I am disappointed that either the company is changing their quality, or Amazon just doesn't distinguish between the two when you order them. I would give the better set (model number B000QJDCKU) a 5 star rating if I had received two sets of those.

Good quality item and works as described
I'm one of those people who has a perpetual burn on her arm from reaching into the oven, so buying this item was a no-brainer for me. First, installation: the snaps are not at the perfect distance apart for my particular oven racks, so I had to stretch the product a bit in one place and wrinkle it in another so the snaps would clear the bars. It isn't very stretchable, but the bars are so thin, I didn't really have a problem with adjusting it. Second, the smell: On my first use, I had the oven at 475 degrees F. (the max is 500). The product gave off a strong chemical smell. I haven't used the oven a second time since then, so I don't know if the smell will linger. Third, the product isn't long enough to stretch the entire length of the oven racks, so there's a couple of inches that are bare on either end if you center it. Not really a problem unless you're reaching into that extreme edge of the oven. Overall I'm happy with this product and would purchase it again.

Need to be longer and thicker. The snaps are in the wrong place.
It snaps on the racks. Only four snaps were in the right place. I had to bunch it up to snap it. Now it still has 4-5 inches on each side that is not covered.

Very happy with this simple yet elegant idea...
Such a simple idea, but done very well...well enough that more than a few people have remarked "I could have thought of that" when they saw it in the oven. The idea is really rather elegant...if you do a lot of baking, roasting, or what have you, odds are you've burned yourself more than a couple of times on oven racks. These are guards that protect your uncovered areas from burns caused by inadvertent contact. And yes, I suppose one could DIY a guard out of some heatproof cloth or something...but this is done so nicely that it's really not worth the bother to reverse engineer it. It works, and works well. I'm very happy with these guards.

Good Protection Against Burns
Third time around with these guys. These provide great protection against burns when putting things in or out of the oven. They snap into place along the front edge of each oven shelf, protecting the hands and wrists from inadvertent contact with a hot rack. They come off easily for washing, and we've never had a snap break or fall off. However, over time they will pick up grease and stains that just will not wash out, requiring a replacement if, like us, you have a large window in the oven door and want to present a nice appearance. We've replaced these about every three to four year because of that. Otherwise these things likely will last forever. They are only 16-inches wide, so they don't protect the entire front edge of a rack, but we haven't found that to be an issue.

They wash up fine and were still usable
This is the second set I've bought; the first set was used well over a year. I use my oven quite a bit, and the guards were stained and brown from the heat. They wash up fine and were still usable, but the price for a new set of 18" guards was hard to beat. Please note--the purpose of these rack guards is to help keep your arm/hand from getting burned; these are not oven mitts. So, yes, if you try to pull out the rack via the guard, you will feel the heat on the rack. Common sense should tell you not to do that. I would recommend and would buy these again.

Holiday cooking review
With the holidays I have done quite a bit of cooking using my oven. I have my oven rack guards in place and so far so good. They do help to keep one from touching the racks when inserting or removing an item from a hot oven. They were particularly helpful with the cookie baking I did and working with cookie sheets in and out of the oven. The one comment perhaps on the down side is that it takes a while to move the pan or sheet over the guards as you place them in the oven. This is not a big deal but rather a small learning curve.
