Excellent
This is a review of "Brass Monkeys - 100% Pure Merino Wool - Skull Cap - New Zealand Made - Breathable, Ideal for Skiing - Black Unisex Hat for Men & Women"I already own a set of Merino wool leggings from Brass Monkey, so I kind of knew what to expect - a good quality, well-made ite, and I wasn't disappointed at all.As described, this is a 'skull cap', not a beanie type, so really designed to be worn under something else, but I plan to use it as a lightweight beanie on its own anyway.I have a very big head so I went for the Large size, and it's a perfect fit. It's also very comfortable in that whilst a snug fit it's not uncomfortably tight in any way, so very lightweight but warm too.Excellent product.- - - - - - - - - -Note: As a member of the Vine program I was supplied with this item free of charge. Soft, breathable merino wool skull cap for outdoor wear
A merino wool skull cap style beanie from Brass Monkeys, made in New Zealand. The hat is a supremely soft fine wool knit fabric, neatly stitched an finished, and shaped to fit over the hears, to keep them snug. Being a skull cap style, it doesn't need folding back on itself or arranging on the head (just popping on!). As it's not bulky the cap can be worn underneath a hood or cycling helmet, for running, hiking, outdoor sports and everyday wear. It can also easily be folded for carrying in a pocket. It's very comfortable, soft breathable and great for temperature regulation. The price is a little high compared to other skull caps, but I suppose this because it's travelled a long way, is made from quality wool and is designed to withstand outdoor sports use. I ordered the cap for my husband, who's very pleased as he's been wanting something to wear underneath his cycling hat; this helps to keep out the worst of the (currently very cold) weather, to keep his head warm and to help stop the helmet from snagging on his hair - he's delighted with it, thank you. I'd love to try the matching thermal underwear as it's so soft and cosy!

Very light and thin
Soft Merino Wool Skull CapI had never heard of this brand, but it appears to be a reliable company, so when the opportunity came to try this skull cap, I was hoping it would be a warm addition to my Husband’s hat wardrobe. He likes to wear a beanie throughout autumn/winter, even in the house because he doesn’t have much hair, so his head is always cold. I thought this would be an alternative to a thicker type beanie hat.It arrives in a plastic bag with a card detailing all of the cap’s qualities - lightweight, soft & comfortable, odourless, quick drying, fast wicking, elastic, anti bacterial, warm & temp regulating, natural & renewable, machine washable, UV protection and breathable.Upon opening the item, at £24.99 (at the time of writing this review), my Husband was shocked at how light and thin the cap actually was, but I informed him that it is made from good quality sustainable Merino wool and should definitely keep his head warm, despite how thin it is.If you needed it to go underneath a cycling/motorbike helmet, it would be perfect to keep you warm. He’s had it almost a week, and hasn’t taken it off indoors, so he must like it 😂As always, I have added a few photos to this review which I hope you find helpful.

Premium.
This is a superfine, lightweight Merino wool skull cap and I think it's exceptional.Made from 100% pure Merino wool from sustainable sources in New Zealand this is an unashamedly premium product. Wool is so often discarded as an uneconomical by-product but this is premium wool from premium sources and it shows. The cap is made from fine jersey knit and is light, soft and comfortable to wear. It fits close to the head but not uncomfortably so, it could be worn under a cycle helmet or hood for extra warmth. Being made from a natural material the cap is breathable and moisture wicking. All good. There isn't the heavy, itchy scratchiness that cheaper wool or wool mix fabrics can be prone to, there also isn't the unpleasant 'wet dog' lanolin smell when wet. It can even be (carefully) machine washed, which is fantastic. This is well made and I don't think it will fall apart any time soon, there are no loose threads, snags or wobbly seams, and while this is undeniably expensive, it is also undeniably premium quality, and an investment in quality and comfort. At £24.99 (as at 14 November 2024) I think this is a great investment for any cyclist, runner, skier, hiker or anyone else who values outdoor comfort and would nmake a thoughtful and much appreciated gift.

Excellent soft skull cap
This skull cap is made from 100% merino wool, which is ethically sourced from farms in New Zealand. It is also made in New Zealand and the credentials of the company making it are impressive. The knit is very fine single jersey which sits comfortably on your head with no itching or scratching, and it is totally breathable. Whether you use this for outdoor sports like skiing or snowboarding, or like me for long country walks in the cold winter, it is going to keep your head nice and warm. I have used it under a wool beanie, and it it so comfortable and cosy - it is going to be perfect to keep my head warm.It is machine washable on a wool cycle and using wool detergent, which I always use anyway with all my woollen items of clothing.I am very impressed, and this is going to be one of the most used items of clothing this winter!
