"Brilliantly Made, Intensely Dramatic... Very Moving" - The GuardianStephen Dillane is British journalist Michael Henderson, who decides to risk everything to help the innocent people of a besieged city. With support from the flamboyant 'star' American journalist, Flynn (Woody Harrelson), and aid worker, Nina (Marisa Tomei), Henderson embarks on a perilous and terrifying journey to evacuate the city's orphan children to safety. The film is inspired by the true story of ITV news reporter Michael Nicholson, who after months of reporting on the siege of Sarajevo, smuggled a child out of the war-torn city and later adopted her. However, the film is much more that a story of… more » one man's personal act of compassion, it is a harrowing and moving tribute to a city that refused to give in.

A Telling Account
I needed to know about that awful war and this film gives a good background to the happenings by centering on a brief period in the town of Sarajevo. While the story concerns one particular event, the efforts of a journalist to take a 12-year-old girl out of the country, we are given a behind-the-scenes look at the horrors of this type of racist war and I was deeply affected by what must have been the terrible sufferings of the people who lived through it. It all happened while the world just stood by and watched. It had some very good actors, including Marisa Tomei, whom we never see enough of, and the young girl who was a very talented child actress. I will want to watch it again, which is a good indication of how impressed I am with any film.

Oh My Bosnia
It is all I expected it to be. After a recent visit to Sarajevo, and conversations I had with people there who are now my friends, I felt compelled to see this film. The sheer devastation, brutality and feeling of hopeless these people suffered during the longest siege in human history is portrayed impeccably and so true to life that this film disturbs, impresses and tears at your soul. The use of newsreel footage and the clever mix of film makes you believe you are witnessing actual events. If you are not moved bye this film, particulary the very harrowing and deeply disturbing scene where the Serbian children on the bus are removed from the group by Chetniks, then you have no soul. Sarajevo u mom srcu (Sarajevo always in my heart)

Harrowing Movie but you have to see it.....
Reveals the very best and the worst of human nature.....and human propensity to survive no matter whatLest we forget the siege of Sarajevo happened less than 20 years ago, in our own back yard (and why did it take us so long to save the lives of the innocents?)Just when you thought the end of WWII and the Fall of the Berlin Wall had brought an end to suffering in Europe, think againThis film is a reminder of to us all of what racial hatred can bring when allowed to get out of control....and it can happen again almost anywhere if we let it

Powerful and hard to watch
One of the few excellent movies made about this war. It is incredibly hard to watch at times. It is hard hitting.

I served in Bosnia with SFOR
I served in the US Army with SFOR. I think this is an excellent and well done film. It is perhaps the most accurate film that I have seen concerning the war in Bosnia. It not only accurately reflects and shows the genocide that was carried out by Slobodan Milosevic, Ratko Mladic and Rodavan Kradzic but it also gives hints but does not quite come out to expose the whole truth. As a soldier who served in Bosnia I will tell you the whole truth that this film seeks to poke at. It shows how the United States acted as accomplices to Slobodan Milosevic's genocide that was carried out against the Bosnian muslim population. It plainly shows American officials lying to the American people. I would also like to add the Former President Clinton has seen this movie himself with actor Woody Harrelson and Mr. Clinton knows full well that he lied to the American people about what was really going on in Bosnia. To be honest with you.... it is a truth that must be told. I am aching to tell it to everybody I can find. I was shocked to see the dead bodies when I was in Bosnia and further shocked to discover the lies the US government told the American people. I think it is very important for every american to watch this film. In order to fully understand the film I highly recommend Peter Maass's book "Love They Neighbor." He reported on the war in Bosnia.

Aussergewöhlich
Man glaubt nicht, wie ernsthaft der Film das Thema Kriegsberichterstattung nimmt und trotzdem fesselnd bis zum Schluss. Sollte öfters gezeigt werden.

Bosnia, Croatia, and the country we all called Yugoslavia.
We just visited the "old" Yugoslavia about two months ago so it has been on our minds a lot. We wanted to get a better idea of what actually happened over there and this film did fill in some of the missing spaces. It is such a spectacular place, absolutely beautiful. We saw some of the remnants of damage but for the most part the country it getting back on it's feet. I should say "countries." The whole war was a terrible tragedy, so much suffering.

An incomplete rating
Movie is probably better than my rating, but I need subtitles to fully enjoy a movie, and my DVD had none.It certainly portrayed some of the horror of the Serb-Croat war, which is why I chose to view it. And it was actuallyunusual in that part of it was upbeat, with a partially happy ending. Again, my evluation is limited by my inability tohear and understand what was being said, hence my need for subtitles.
