An excellent 'must-have' for medical interviews
I was recommended this book by seniors prior to interview but initially had doubts regarding how useful a generic medical interview book would be to prepare someone for a specific job. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It is packed full of useful information and potential questions relevant to all medical/surgical jobs and applicable to varying grades, which really helped elucidate and dissipate the mystery of 'the specialty interview' and marking schemes by presenting important points and useful information in easy, digestable chunks. It presents good summaries of important interview topics such as clinical governance and helps prompt candidates to think of their own case studies and to structure them in a systematic way so that in the heat of the moment, there is a good framework to fall back on, which helps in clear delivery and confidence. Whether you have months to prepare or even for last-minute prep, I would highly recommend this book and genuininely think this aided me in getting my 1st choice job on the ACCS anaethetics programme.

Great resource
Found this book very useful. Provides you with information that is otherwise fairly widely scattered and a large task to source (e.g. ethical scenarios that require knowledge of GMC guidance etc.). Found the structures it provides such as CAMP and SPIES very useful in interview. I applied for histopath interview and although there aren't speciality specific questions for histopath in here many topics that I read in this book came up e.g. audit or teaching presentation etc. and I found the information in here good. Also at a time of worry and nerves it is nice to have a book like this that walks you through it and reassures you at the same time. Would highly recommend. Worth the investment!

review
Pros:1. gives a good framework of how to tackle any type of question and therefore in inteview situation when you are given a completely new question- you won't be completely thrown off and will be able to structure an answer that ticks most boxes2. Covers a wide array of topics and therefore giving a good grasp of what depth of knowledge and which areas of study are important for interviewCons:1. A bit out of date for 2013 interviews. Does not contain anything about NHS reforms, CCGs etc. Does not supply latest information on revalidation and appraisal.Consequently the two hottest topics are missing from this book.Summary: definitely worth getting, I only had one interview, did no verbal interview practice and ONLY used this book to prepare(+ideas it prompted for further research) and ended up getting my training post on first attempt. So therefore the book must have something to it as I absolutely new nothing before reading it!

Comprehensive!
Excellent book used it for my ST1 interview and nailed the clinical governance station. Probably too extensive for ST1 jobs but brilliant summaries and chapters on boring stuff like governance and audits. Gives great advice on how to maximise your CV content by expanding on points I.e teaching - Explains what are the diff styles of teaching and how you should explain which technique you've used - didactic, small group sessions, interactive, simulation etc. Will be referring to this again for Reg interview hopefully!

Essential reading
I purchased this book before an ST interview earlier this year. As someone who has never worked in the NHS this book is essential. It covers all the topics you need to know about such as the Darzi report, audit, governance as well as outlining the formats of interviews/structured questions/clinical stations/difficult scenarios. It is highly useful for everyone, regardless of clinical and interview experience. Do not go in to an ST interview without reading it.

Worth every penny - buy it!
This is a brilliant book for any junior doctor who is going for an interview. I have just been offered an ST3 job in anaesthetics in my first choice deanery. The information about interviews provided in this book was invaluable. If a candidate arranges interview practice and reads this book it will be the best preparation for any medical interview.

interview preparation book
This book is excellent in getting you prepared for the interviews and its very handy as it tells you the key things that you need to know for the interview even if your interview is the very next day. I would certainly recommend it to all who are preparing for interviews for the level of Foundation year, CT, ST or Registerar level.
