Even before that, I had to grip it like a gorilla to hold it shut...and using it was a mess.The Chain Pig "eyes" are plastic tabs on metal tabs and they spring lock the top easily. I'm not sure I figured out use the hook, but I have a feeling that's great feature. The Chain Pig ain't a pig, it barely splatters at all. I think it cleans fine. For these features, I give it five stars. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ... over the years and so far this is the best. First *by K***E on Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2016* Been through a lot of chain cleaners over the years and so far this is the best. First, you install on your bike without the cleaning fluid in the "pig" and then you add the fluid once the "pig" is secure to the bike. No mess whatsoever. Second, the metal "tail" hook on the back really holds the device in place. Lot of the chain cleaners I have purchased in the past always had some kind of handle that eventually broke. Third, the button "eyes" to open up the device really secure the two pieces together when the chain is running through the "pig" getting cleaned. Finally, that the "pig" only takes a small amount of cleaning fluid was a pleasant surprise.Only suggestion is to do a 'dry' run putting the device on and off the bike before you load with fluid. It took me a couple of tries to hook the device onto my derailleur the right way (instructions are a little confusing on which side of the pulley to hook the tail onto) as well as making sure the two pieces of the pig hook together properly.I used some Simple Green cleaning fluid so I did not try with the Pedros cleaning fluid that is recommended. Work fine but wondering if the Pedros stuff is even better. Will have to buy some when I run out of the Simple Green. Finally, I will have to wait to see how easy it is to clean the 'pig's' inners out when the brushes get dirty - so I can't report on that part of the device's cleaning process. One other suggestion - going to take a picture of the inners before I disassemble so I can put it back together the right way (no instructions on how to do provided).All in all a good deal - one comes to expect from Pedros. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A must if you own a bike. *by J***N on Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2016* I love this thing! I chose it over the many other brands simply because of the hook so I wouldn't have to hold it with one hand and crank with the other. the drag on it tends to pull on the derailleur somewhat but I now have another hook on a cord and I tie it off in the opposite direction. So now it doesn't move and I have a free hand when cranking to keep adding my cleaning solution "Zep Fast 505" mixed 50/50. Then squirt in fresh water, then more solution. Then more water, solution, water......... all while cranking. This gets the chain as clean as clean can be and it's fast and easy. I do pop it open and flush out and squeeze out the sponge a few times too. I finish up with compressed air then let sit a bit to dry out more before oiling. About a beer or two time wise. I use a stand when cleaning the bike and remove the wheels and use a dummy hub which enables spinning the cranks & even working the shifters.
