Unexpected relevations
I wondered about this book but I learned a lot from it. Like the origins of lots of the things about Germany that came to pass in the 1930s. The history of the “Jewish problem” and the primacy of the Arian race. They all had their origins here. It was a time of tremendous change much like now. Also the origins of the European issues between Germany and the neighboring countries.

Excellent report on current scholarship
This madly informative book is only for the serious reader, but it richly rewards with its broad focus on multiple aspects of the Second Reich’s history. Not a strict political narrative but doesnt neglect that—or much else. His citations will point the interested reader in the right directions. Can’t skip this one if you’re interested in the period.

Detail Demographic Study
I read about half of the book. It is a very detailed demographic academic study of Imperial Germany. In summary the author spends too much time describing the trees and ignoring the forest and its surrounding environment.
