It was a brass valve. It was replaced with one made of plastic that didn't last very long. We had a serious water leak and thought it was coming from the plastic valve. It wasn't. There was a damaged irrigation pipe that caused the problem. Before starting the filler up again I asked the pool man about a brass valve - he told me they only carry the plastic ones now. He offered to install it for me if I bought one on Amazon. Amazon used to carry several but only had one in the right size.
