There isn’t a lot of room between the tines, of course, so the blade scraped occasionally. Once the cuke was sliced I cut some of them in quarters and added them to the salad. Tasted great! I’m glad I bought this veggie holder. The quality of the tool is excellent and the workmanship is very sturdy. I think if the kids are going to use the tool they should be under supervision until they can handle knives properly. As I mentioned earlier, I was surprised it took an extra effort to get the tines through the core. It made me think that a younger child might struggle keeping the tool under control and hurt themselves if their balance became compromised.
