Sounds like this cancels out the fpv on your controller/xmitter and runs the drone through the app. i just want a bigger monitor to view will this do?

Since this is a receiver, it won't cancel anything out. If your drone is broadcasting in 5.8 GHz then you can get a picture on the app/controller and whatever monitor you have this receiver hooked up to. But if your drone is wifi then this receiver won't work at all for you. This receiver does not receive wifi.

How do i use the av5g connection instead of the usb connection? has anyone done it?

Well a = audio v=video 5=volts g=ground (ground is common for audio as and video as well)
