Great little DMR / Analog radio - It has exceeded my expectations.
This is a great little DMR radio. Before you do anything with this radio, update it's radio firmware and its dmr firmware to the latest version. Also use the latest version of the codeplug software. The codeplug software is a little querky, but it has .csv file import and export for the channels. The .csv import is what makes it's codeplug software easy to use. I created a codeplug using a very large statewide DMR repeater network list, which after adding a few extra zones for analog repeaters and hotspots, it was something like 40 zones total, with about 12 channels per zone on average. (About 500 channels!) So being able to copy those zones and channels from a website into a spreadsheet and then import that into the software with a .csv file made a very large effort relatively easy. Export the channels from the stock config to get your base .csv template, edit with Excel or Libreoffice, and then import them all. That's the way to do it. Hint, got an error importing a .csv file made from libreoffice - just save the file, open it again but with Notepad and then save it again, and then it will import with no problem. As well, you can export chirp files to a spreadsheet and reformat for Radtel the same way. The channel names and zones, and contacts are 16 characters which is really nice. The talk group names can be 14 characters. It supports 1024 channels. It only supports 32 DMR talkgroups, but only about 20 were needed for the statewide codeplug I used. Last, I was surprised that it contained all of the DMR users from users.csv from radioid.net as of October 23, 2025, although it was only listed as being able to store 2000 address book entries. Go figure - perhaps the latest firmware update made better use of its memory? I was very surprised that worked. You can also program the keypad and two feature buttons on the side of the radio to perform different settings like NOAA Channel mode, FM radio, squelch settings, zone selection, vfo/channel mode and so on. Has 6-meter capability as I understand, and it looks like you can receive it in AM, FM, and SSB, but it only looks like it transmits in FM only. Never used 6 meters on it, but that is not what I got it for. Some users say that receiving on that band is poor, but of course the stock antenna that came with the radio would never work with 6 meters to begin with. You would need a completely different antenna to receive anything or to transmit on that band anyway. Also has other important settings like separate Mic Gains for DMR as well as for analog. All in all, I'm impressed with this radio so far.

Absolutely great, except for one thing.
These are amazing DMR radios for a great price, but do beware they are absolutely not beginner friendly. It takes a couple hours to program them if you want to use them like a walkie talkie, but other than that they're great. The big drawback is that, for whatever reason, the type C port will only charge with a type A to type C cable, a normal c to c cable does not work, this goes for the dock too. It seems that Radtel didnt correctly implement the type C protocol. Other than that, they work great. Highly reccomended for people who need secure fleet comms.

Wow! A good and versatile DMR / FM Tranceiver at a great price.
The RADTEL RT-4D is as described/specified. This radio is a nice size, and unlike many other radios, actually transmits at 5 watts. It has good battery life - at high power, I can work all my local DMR and FM repeaters. At low power, I can work my MMDVM hotspots for the entire day. Although you may think the storage for contact/talkgroups, channels, and zones is limited, let's face it - you program your radio full of data and only use 5 zones most of the time anyway. The price is great and, like all DMR radios, the CPS UI is a terrible experience. I give it 5 stars for the hardware, great audio, excellent DMR codec, and great signal reports. Yes, you can use the low bands but it's not really an HF transceiver, so don't expect anything much. It performs as well as my other DMR handhelds at a much, much, lower price point..

Great radio for the price
This radio is well worth the price. The only thing that would make it better is including a programming cable. It’s very easy to program and easy to use. It seems to be built well and the DMR functionality works perfectly. I would recommend updating the firmware when you get the unit. Sound quality is good as well.

Ecellent DMR and analog TX/RX performance and AM airband reception as a bonus!
I've had my Radtel RT-4D for over two months and it has been great fun to use. I upgraded the DMR-Chip firmware to V1.2.0.13 and Radio F/W to v3.16 right out of the box. A few days ago I upgraded the DMR-Chip firmware to V1.2.0.16 when it was released to correct an issue with inadvertent time slot jumping. The CPS is intuitive and easy to navigate if you have experience making codeplugs. If you don't, there is plenty of assistance in the Radtel RT-4D facebook group. The performance with DMR is excellent although scanning DMR channels is currently not working 100% as the radio does not stop on busy DMR channels when scanning a bank of DMR repeater frequencies. Radtel is aware and working on that. Additionally, if DMR channels are not toggled with promiscuous mode "ON" it does not receive DMR traffic. I can live with that as I like promiscuous mode anyway. It can hold the entire DMR-ID contact list (+280,000 hams worldwide) if you use the modified contact list in the Radtel RT-4D user group. Analog performance is also excellent with beautiful receive and transmit audio. Additionally, it has receive function with the AM aviation band and it does it beautifully with an actual AM detector rather than mangling it with some offset FM slope arrangement like many radios do. It will scan public service police/fire/ems frequencies very well and yes in addition to 2m and 440 it will do GMRS quite nicely. I take this radio hiking and it gets rough handling but does not complain. No regrets at all with the Radtel RT-4D for casual operation on the go or at home.

Really pleased with this radio albeit I struggled with the multiple options in the instructions. Helpful videos online assisted. Good battery life and USB C charging help to make it my favourite radio.

No se escuchaba nada en recepción. Decepcionante respecto a las expectativas que tenía en este producto.

Solid radio that is pretty easy to program, with some excellent features. We use them on our licenced business frequencies, but you could just as easily program them for 446MHz or if you’re a Ham, set them up for amateur DMR. Shame there’s not a usb Port on the battery so that they could be charged independently of the radio, but that’s not a deal-breaker. I ordered some spare batteries and handheld mics direct from Radtel. Also swapped out the antennas for ones cut to our specific frequencies. Radios work very well and have good audio on both analog and digital. Recommended.

I bought this radio not knowing what to expect when it arrived and I was amazed with the quality for the price, it feels really sturdy and has a reasonable weight to it, I am also amateur radio user used to different radios and this is as good as a more expensive radio, setting up the radio is fairly easy once you read the instructions and watch a couple of youtube videos, overall price and quality are exceptional and would buy from this company again.
