Did not fit our 40 inch hallway before we even put on the tension rods. Once we got them on (at the shortest length) it was about 2 inches to long. So I suggest if your opening is shorter then 42 inches, this won’t fit. We put it on a different opening and once installed, the locking mechanism was so hard to open, you have to lift up and then push or pull. Each of us had to practically ram our way through the door. We even loosened the tension rods but couldn’t do it so much because the latch is so short. We ended up having to file the plastic down around the latch and completely removing the bottom plastic piece were it pops into place. Now, it comes with tape for it to stick to the wall but we didn’t want to rip the paint off the wall so we opted out of it, but we regret not doing so because the tension rods ended up gouging the wall. This isn’t our first rodeo with baby/dog gates and I will never go with style again. The only thing I liked about this gate is the height, being over 6ft I enjoy not having to bend over to open a gate. None the less, I paid around 50 bucks for this gate, I may as well use it. Just purchase at your own risk.

This was the perfect gate for us! Our 3 month old puppy (chocolate lab) was starting to jump over the cheap baby gate that we had, which keeps him in his room when we're at work, so we had to do something. I loved that this gate offered the auto shut and stay open feature at a decent price. Our only issue was that it didn't latch closed smoothly at first. It auto closed but we had to pull it to latch. After a quick adjustment of the pieces that tighten against the door frame, it works perfect! I Love how it looks and it's the perfect height! We have no worries about our pup getting out now. The only negative I can see is that maybe the actual opening would be a bit narrow for a larger person. We are fairly "average" (maybe just a little thick) and we just fit through it.

It was hard finding a tall gate and I was happy to find this. Due to large structure, it will flex more and is harder to tighten the bolts fully as doing so can make the unit bow. This may be behind the complaints about the gate not holding. Our drywalls have text and that helps keep the gate there but if our dogs wanted, they can and have pushed it down. A partial solution is to not put the gate straight up but tilted toward the direction that the dogs are. Since doing that they have not taken it down.The gate latch is also a bit less convenient to do and undo than some of the other gates we have. Not being able to keep the unit flat also compromises the latch functionality some.

So happy that I didn't need to make new holes in my walls to secure the gates. Happy they still made them to fit in place of the old gates. Best and easiest gate to use on the market. Thank You for what you do.

This product has never worked correctly. The hollow, light weight metal was banned before I even installed it. I tried using it for my dogs, because it is not sturdy enough for a baby. Wish I would have returned it while I still could. It’s not a worthless piece of metal sitting in a box. Need to throw it out.

It took a bit of ordering and returning to get the correct extensions from Amazon Wearhouse deals, but we now have the perfect babygate to keep both our German Shepherds out of our kitchen. Big plus that Wearhouse deals even had the extensions and much cheaper than buying them new. Since we weren't placing it near stairs nor involving children, we weren't quite as worried about used item safety. These are dogs after all, not children with opposable thumbs. The gate works beautifully. We can leave the door open and let them in and out for water when we're not cooking or dealing with food, and we can shut it to keep them out when we are.

Not as good as I was hoping for. It auto-swings closed but doesn't shut all the way without a little help. There's a bottom latch that's too tight and prevents it from shutting all the way. Also, I was able to get my last gate tight enough without having to use the screws. It was so tight, it wouldn't budge. I can't do that with this one. I have to readjust the pressure points a couple times a day (not really that big of a deal, just a little frustrating when I'm used to my other one). I just may have to screw it in the wall. Definitely not the highest quality but it's tall enough and I do like that it will stay open on it's own, and it's serving it's purpose, so 3 stars on this one.

I like the height and verstatility of this security gate. I've owned it for a number of months now, and it's a great gate. I love being able to just swing it behind me and have it lock closed on its own when I pass through it. I have had some recent issues with the latch part sometimes not coming all the way out when you open it, causing it to not catch and close, so it may need some maintenance after a while.
