WD 14TB Gold
I've had the drive for month and gave it a workout when first received. No issues and for a HDD its relative fast as I did get advertised read/write speeds. Not near as noisy as most Enterprise drive are. Remember to register your drive at Western Digital support to get the full 5 year warranty.

INITIALLY OK, BUT WENT BAD WITHIN 60 DAYS
My 4TB WD hard drive was almost full (I take a lot of photos) and I had already tried a 12 TB Seagate drive that was DOA, so I decided to try a 8TB WD drive since my 4TB drive has been fine for several years. It initially was OK and I was able to copy the 4TB drive to it using a common utility (It's not my first rodeo). However, after less than two months I noticed it was taking a while to open files. I ran the CHKDSK utility and it found some bad sectors. I started using it again but after about a week it started acting flaky again. I removed the drive from my main computer and plugged it into one of my backups and ran CHKDSK again. This time there were multiple pages of errors. When it finished I tried to access the drive and the system told me it wasn't accessible. I ran CHKDSK again and it found MORE ERRORS but I ran into the same issue of it not being accessible, so I ran it again. This time it gave me the errors in the attached picture in an endless loop. I went to try to print it but it was over 300 pages. The good news is that I called Amazon (Since I had heard that dealing with WD is a nightmare) and they gave me a one-time exception refund but with a $48 restocking fee. I very nicely asked if there was a way to not pay that and he then got approval for a credit that could be used for a replacement drive. I am assuming this was a one-time issue so I reordered the same drive. I will update here if it also goes bad!

GREAT Synology NAS SERVER HHDs
Up Dated 2/18/2025: --- No Problems with the 16TB WD Gold in my Synology NAS DS416Play AND my Synology NAS DS1520+. I also have them in 2 Synology 5bay Expansion Units DX517 connected to my Synology NAS DS1520+. No error codes everything works great. I use the DS416Play for file backups. I use the DS1520+ and both of my Synology 5bay Expansion Units DX517 set up as 3 Volumes for my PLEX Server. ----- "YES Synology updated there Compatible Drive List for at least the Drive List for my Setup." ----- My be yours as well?? ----- But really -- What a GREAT setup. I also have a digital antenna in my attic connected to a Silicon Dust FLEX 4K that is connected to my router. So though PLEX SERVER I get "ALL my Local TV Channels" and ALL In Full HD & a lot more TV channels from Plex Live TV. All sent wirelessly to all my TVs. NO MORE cable tv bill.

Great drives, but check your S/N for warranty coverage ASAP
Good drive..but depending on your drive source, hit or miss on warranty. Be sure to check your serial number and country to see if you get a drive with a valid warranty. Before you use or install it.I've bought this 3 different times and was surprised to find a drive I bought in late 2023, when it was just over a year old, had been imported to the USA from another region. This came from Amazon.com as the seller, not a 3rd party. Turned out no warranty coverage when it died at 13 months. This last purchase, June/July 2025, I got a drive with proper warranty in the USA. Good through 2030. Came in a retail box, very happy with the purchase. In terms of the product itself, they've performed as expected. Having a drive die isn't a surprise, it happens. My luck wasn't good as it was 1 of just 4 purchased. What wasn't expected was finding too late that after trying to buy a quality drive brand new under warranty (or so I thought), that it wasn't under warranty and I was out of luck. So be sure you're getting what you paid for inside the return window and you'll be fine.

Best for the money
I have used most the top brands....over the last 10 years. I currently run just under 100TB in my desktop, which mostly consisted of the 6TB 12TB drives...and now updated to 18TB slowly. WD Black and Golds thus far I haven't had a single failure in 15 years..... with EVERY other brand usually being replaced due to failure. One thing..... I do NOT use these as working drives. I use SSD..... i DID use two 6TB ssd in raid 0 for about 5 years with no issues.... I JUST replaced it with an SSD, to gain some speed and another sata port back.18TB is a LOT of data on one disk. As a photographer I shoot about 5-6 TB per year of pics and video. I have adopted my older 12TB drives as the backups in a box... and added the 18TB last fall and this spring as my onboard archive drives.... Thus far.. they have been great with no issues...and no noise... at least that I have noticed.I don't recommend these for much more than archive and backup..... they make FAST onboard archive drives.... hitting speeds regularly of 190-220MB/sec sustained until you get to the last 25%, then they slow down to the more average 120-150MB/secPackaging. I have NEVER gotten a drive in an envelope, every drive came in an OEM box with the appropriate cardboard or plastic drive suspender that is in most store boxes. More recently they have come in that and bubble wrapped as well inside the box... with two drives even coming in a special box for two drives suspended.IF YOU SHOULD RECEIVE a drive that was just in some envelope and not in an suspended protector inside the box... most likely its not coming from this seller or is being fulfilled by another party. DOCUMENT The wrapping well and just send it back to avoid any issues. Don't even finish taking the drive out, and ask for one in proper packaging. In my current case of nearly 6 years..(Obsidian 800d). I now only have WD black or Golds...computer never shuts offno failures.
