Great colourful guide
Really colourful book. I loved flicking through this as the pictures were so good and interesting. There were lots of suggestions for things to do that I wouldn't have thought of and I particularly liked the few pages on what to prioritise if you were on a short stay.

First class for planning a stay in Tokyo
I have just returned from Japan and it was a bewildering experience. There are a number of difficulties, first being that English is not commonly used or known, second that the tourist maps are quite literally bewilderingly useless imho, and third is you never know in what direction you are facing. My best advice to anyone visiting Japan is to take a simple magnetic compass, that way you will at least know which way you are facing when you emerge from one of the underground and overground stations. I like this pocket guide because it is quite clear about what part of Tokyo you are in and you can easily connect the area maps using the colour reference at the top of the map page, which is very difficult to do with the official Tokyo publications. Only gripe is that if you have old eyes, the names of the streets will be very difficult to read, so take a pocket magnifier. There are some long walks, some short walks, lots of places to eat, lots of places to go, things happening (a year in Tokyo) a pull out laminated map at the back. The illustrations are very good, not sure how they achieved such clarity on what is pretty thin paper. I intend to return to Japan and Tokyo, and this will be absolutely in my pocket. My biggest grip about the excellent tour i went on was that it packed so much in that I never really knew where I was- this will definitely solve that problem and open up further vistas for you

Good for inspiration and planning
An approachable guide to Tokyo and its different locations and culture. The photos are appealing (although they do not come to their full beauty due to the rather plain paper it is printed on, but that's a detail). It is well structured with an introduction to Tokyo's highlights as well as some suggestions for a 1, 3 and 5 day itinerary. The topics range widely from the city itself with its layout, foods, geek culture to WW II history etc. and it's good to have at hand. There is a fold out map at the back showing the different parts of Tokyo in detail as well as an overview of the transport links on the inside of the back cover.A good book for inspiration and planning. Especially if used with fully up-to-date information from the internet.

Great guide and likely all you'd need
I've travelled all over the world and am due to go to Tokyo and Japan in November. I have already done quite a lot of my own research but this excellent guide added useful info around places to consider visiting. I also have the Top Ten Tokyo guide and it's going to be a toss up which I eventually take. The Top Ten is better ordered for the traveller who wants to pack the most in of the major sites, but it lacks a little comparatively on map size/readability and info. In fact much of the info is the same, just shortened in the Top Ten. Reading the fuller guide did make me think maybe I should have stayed just in Tokyo for my 20+ days in Japan. There is so much to see. At the moment I am edging towards taking this fuller guide especially as weight differences are minor, due to the lighter paper used. The day to day guide section is handy, as is the area by area breakdown. The maps seem excellent, tho I tend to use Google Maps for finding my way around. Pictures are also excellent. I'd say have a look at this fuller guide and also the Top Ten Tokyo. Both are 5/5 in my opinion and which you prefer will be subjective.

DK Eyewitness Tokyo (Travel Guide)
I was asked if I’d like to review the DK Eyewitness Tokyo (Travel Guide) by DK Eyewitness, and I said yes. When I’m thinking of going somewhere for a holiday as always do a lot of research first. This paperback book has 208 pages. You’ll find the book covers Western Tokyo, Central Tokyo, Northern Tokyo, Beyond the Center and Beyond Tokyo. The contents include:- a year’s calendar of events in Tokyo, expert advice and tips, (which covers what to do before you go, getting around and staying safe). There’s a number of detailed colour maps, (to help you whilst in the country).Authentic places to stay, eat, drink and shop. There are easy walks for you to follow and itineraries. You’ll also find some hand-drawn illustrations which show some of the attractions. What I found extremely helpful was that it goes into detail for places you want to visit it gives you the opening and closing times, phone numbers and websites, which for me is great.I’ve found this book really helpful and can recommend it.
