No, I have another one that is this brand , and I’ve used it many times , and haven’t had any problem with the handles melting

How many amps does this draw?

I am not sure how many amps it draws but I had it and another hot buffet server plus another crockpot all plugged into one power strip in the same outlet ...no fuses blown. Love this. Good quality and worked well

Would this be a suitable size to heat up dips for a party?

Yes, it would. I used it for my crab dip recipe. Comparable to s casserole dish.
