Velcro on one side, dry erase on the other. Some stated it was too heavy, but I think that is relative. If you have an issue, you might want to have a cart, but I didn't find it 'too' heavy. The case is the only complaint. It is nice and durable, but the clasps are plastic and the first time I used the shoulder strap, the plastic clasp broke, so I can only use the hand straps.
