I brought this Tafsir to compliment my diploma in Tafsir of Qur'an course and I realised that this is essential for every Muslim household to have.Ibn Kathir, a Sunni scholar from the Shafi'i school of thought, wrote Tafseer al-Qurʾān al-ʿAẓeem which links Hadiths and sayings of the sahaba (ra) to verses of the Qur'an, to provide background context and analysis. This is essential in understanding why certain verses where revealed and they are not to be taken on face value as often they have a background story! I just finished the Tafsir of Surah Naba and found so much linguistical analysis of arabic words which are lost in english translation and also links verses to similar verses in the Qur'an to show how Allah (swt) uses these verses in other places for emphasis.It is considered to be an abridged summary of the commentary of at-Tabari, Tafsir al-Tabari and probably currently the best tafsir available in the english language.Although pricey, I highly recommend as this is money well spent in the way of knowledge.[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.38:29Then do they not reflect upon the Qur'an, or are there locks upon [their] hearts? 47:24[...]insh'Allah.

An essential for every muslim and non-muslim if they are interested. They explain the quran so well and in a lot of detail. I love these books, they are my absolute favourite. I believe everyone should have these.
