The Best Book on Public Leadership in a Generation
This is the most important book on public leadership I have read since Burns’ Leadership. One could build a leadership curriculum around it alone. It is practical, hugely informative, and filled with important lessons. It is about policing, but a great deal more. Any public leader —elected or appointed— could benefit from a thoughtful read.

A Thoughtful and Powerful Book About Leading
The CitiStat process may or may not be of interest to many people. What should be of interest to everyone concerned about effective leadership are the effective practices and behaviors Behn offers leaders who are interested in making a measurable difference. I've been working with this idea that the work of leaders is to make a qualitative difference in the lives of people. This book offers a disciplined and thoughtful approach to make that a reality. I give this book to all the leaders I work with.

Do judge a book by its appearance.
Initially, this book appears to be very academic, and one might wonder, how can this can be used in your organization. After reading the first chapter -- and then the entire book, -- no matter the size of your public organization or where you are in the spectrum of performance measures, you will find usable methodologies. Highly recommend -- and it does initially appear daunting.

This stuff works!
This book has been very helpful to me. This past year, our city has launched performance management as a key strategy in creating value to our community. We have learned a lot and look forward to embeding the performance stat principles into our daily work.

Too repetiative
Informative and easy to understand but very repetitive probably could be 50 pages shorter with out the redundant material
