NO VIRTUAL KEYBOARD SOFTWARE! Perfect for Mechanical Keyboards and difficult workstation setups.

*by K***A on Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2014*

First off, I did not buy this for the video switching. At any given time I will have to use information from one screen to complete a task on the second, so switching video is not my purpose. I bought this exclusively for the peripheral compatibility. That being said this switch is great, and it is the only switch under $50 that worked with my setup.I am using two machines, a MacBook Pro, and a custom PC tower running Windows 7. I have a Ducky 87 key mechanical keyboard(no number pad), 2 external Hard Drives and USB keypad and USB Mouse. The previous KVM switches I have tried would not recognize the keyboard. After much research, I found that many low end switches will not be compatible with high end functioning keyboards. So if you are someone who works with a high end keyboard, be warned. This is the only switch that works for me so far.USB HUB SUPPORT------------------------------Even though the Flip only has 2 USB ports. It is compatible with using a separate powered USB hub. I have an IOGear 4 port USB 3.0 hub as my option.Plug your keyboard directly into the Flip. Then connect your other (powered) USB Hub to the other(mouse) usb port on the Flip. Connect all the rest of your devises, (mouse, ExHD, keypad) to the USB Hub. I now have 5 devises hooked up to this 2 port Switch.Everything was recognized on both Mac, and Windows machines.NO VIRTUAL SOFTWARE------------------------------------This switch does not switch control instantly for a reason. It does not use any embedded software to maintain the connections to the uncontrolled computer. That is the reason why this one works for me while the others have failed.Other switches use virtual software embedded in the switch to mimic a keyboard. So the signal sent to the perspective computer is not the actual signal from your keyboard but more of a generic copy of standard keyboard. If your keyboard differs too much from the virtual software in the switch, you will have keyboard functions that will not work. From what I can tell the Belkin Flip uses the raw signal from your peripheral, so there are no conflicts. The downside is you may have to wait several seconds for everything to connect.

    Almost perfect

*by G***F on Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2006*

Just what I was looking for - an easy way to run a desktop server and docked laptop with one monitor, one keyboard and one mouse.A few things you should know before plunking down for this -1) Make sure you are using a keyboard and mouse that are either BOTH usb, or BOTH ps2. If you mix and match, you'll need an adapter for one of them, or have to replace the one that doesnt connect. They sell this product with usb or ps2, so you can pick. My keyboard was not usb, but I bought the usb version, since my next one probably will be.2) Switching back and forth isnt instantaneous. It take about 5 seconds for it to adjust before you can use your mouse, which is also accompanied by some "recognized hardware" noises, but mercifully, no popup announcements.3) Another issue, is your screen resolution. Supposedly this supports up to 2048 x 1536 at 65Hz. However, after hooking it up, my resolution has been degraded. The settings are the same (1280x1024) at highest 32 bit color and 65Hz refresh, but the screen is noticeably more blurry, which is a bit irritating. Perhaps I will figure this out, but so far, no luck.Aside from these issues, nice product. No software required, so you just plug it in and go. Some people have mentioned that this doesnt work with a scroll button on a mouse, but my MS mouse two-button with scroll works the same as ever. Will repost if I resolve any of the above issues...

    Looks nice but gets confused

*by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2008*

The unit looks nice and it has all of the cables built in. That is nice and easy for getting hooked up and all. The KVM does gets confused as to which computer it should be connected. When I boot the main computer, the monitor is connected properly but the mouse and keyboard are dead. If I turn on the other computer, the monitor and keyboard are backwards. To fix this, I unplug the main cable plug that branches to the computers and plug it back in. Then the Yellow side computer has both monitor and keyboard. When I click the switch, the other computer gets control. All is good with the world of KVM's.The fix from Belkin was "Please unplug the cable from both your computers and then swap the cables and plug them back in and restart the computers." This would only reverse the issue and the nice yellow/green coloring of the flip switch and led would be backwards as well. Thank you for the help but no thank you Belkin. There is a delay with the USB devices. The KVM is not maintaining a signal to the computer so the computer think you are unplugging and plugging the keyboard and mouse in and out. Cheap hack from Belkin but it works if you don't mind the delay switching between systems.
