Very readable
Very elegant translation. Used it to familiarize myself before watching a live performance in Italian in Syracuse. Not Ted Hughes' fault that they went off piste and made it hard to follow eaxtctly!

Five Stars
Wonderful translation. We staged it in Greece and the actors had a lot to work with. Rich and profound.

Oresteia as Drama
This translation of the Oresteia by Ted Hughes is excellent and considerably better than the Penguin translation by R. Fagles (which is even more obscure than the 97 page introduction). It seems to me that Hughes has reinvented the Oresteia as a piece of drama which I think is what most english readers require. However,as I do not know any classical greek I cannot comment on the accuracy of the translation.

Classical Drama production
I got this book for my classical drama production at university, the translation is brilliant! Ted Hughes has a great knack for writing beautifully lyrical works which is still manageable to read and not to complex. I did have to read it a second time before I understood the whole plot, but I imagine that could have more to do with the fact I read it all hung over on a dreary Sunday afternoon that it has to do with the writing. The plot is pretty standard of the Greek tragedy but has become a favourite of mine, loving the third part in particular which is a introduction to an established justice system by the kick ass Goddess Athene who basically comes in and saves everyone's behinds (not that I'm biased as I played that part or anything haha) It is a great classic play, and would recommend it to anyone with an interest in the Greeks, Mythology or of course Drama/English lit.

Lightweight but readable.
It was written as a rattling good yarn but for me was too far from the original.

My favorite translation!
I'm no literary scholar, but have read a few different English translations of these world renowned plays of Aeschylus. This Ted Hughes translation is my favorite. I will not be surprised if it becomes your favorite as well. The only shortcoming of this translation is that there is no electronic version of it at this time. If there were I'd happily pay for a second copy so that I could carry it around with me on my smartphone.

Excellent
+ Well structured prose with good formatting.+ Although less technically accurate, the translation is much easier to read and understand than any other translation I have seen.

Classic Book
Interesting book. It gives a great insight into how playwrights in the classical age used myths and plays to make social statements.

Beautiful translation
I enjoyed this translation very much. Hughes has produced a beautiful and moving work here. I highly recommend this version for those who are seeking to simply enjoy the plays without needing the scholarly apparatus.
