It is an OK product...
We had an older model of this brand so thought we would continue with what we already were familiar with. We liked that we could set and record on the VHS feature for daily programs which we could not watch at their scheduled time.

I do not recommend it
I have purchased the combo player a few months back thinking that I can play my home made Video CDs (VCD). Though the on tha packing it says we can play Super VCDs, I was not able to play. After spending hours to reach the customer suppoert, the CSR asked me what is a SVCD (duh).Another CSR asked to send the player for service. I did. Finally they returned the player with a note "Unable to test" and they did not returned my sample vcd also.I was so happy that I was able to return this.Features with VCR were ok.Think twice before making any decision.

Ate It Up
A DVD/VHS combination is a great idea for those with insufficient storage. This might have been a great buy, but I am returning it after a few days of use. After playing a VHS tape for five minutes, it stuck when I tried hit eject.. This was very annoying. I called GO-VIDEO, and they had a special 800 number for those who bought the DVR4000 and one of their other products. I finally got through after several hours, and the technician told me a way (other than the manual's suggestion that you unplug the machine over night!) to un-jam the tape. After several tries (all of which, I believe, may have tampered with the warranty had I damaged the machine in the attempt), I finally saved an old favorite tape. (The 7th game of the 1988 NBA championship. The Go-Video person said that the tape age may have had something to do with it, but that, in any event, this should not have happened.)I'm returning the machine even though it didn't stick with a few tapes I tried afterwards... I just don't quite trust it. I had trouble getting the main setup menu to appear--this happened very inconsistently. All that said, this has great features, fairly easy hookup (especially for newer televisions), and their customer service was very prompt and friendly. If you purchase this, I hope you'll have a better experience than I did. Note: It seems that the other DVD/VHS machines have their share of problems as well, read the reviews for the Panasonic and, especially, the Samsung: User experiences seem to vary greatly.

Not reliable.
I bought this to replace one !had that quit working. Sent an email to seller with no response. The Govideo I was sent doesn't even power on. What a waste of money.

Better than you're told....
This is a great system and it has more extras that you're told about. You can go to govideo.com and read all about it, but here are some of the main extras not mentioned. This system has Dolby® Digital and DTS Digital Output For Playback of DTS-encoded DVDs, Bookmarks, Zoom and Audio During 2x Scan Virtual Surround (3D Sound), 10-Bit Video Digital to Analog Converter and 27MHz Advanced Digital Filter. Complete Program Record Automatically Adjusts Tape Speed So You Don't Miss the End of Your Recorded TV Show, Child Lock for Toddler-Proofing Front Panel ....the list goes on and on. I just thought everyone should know everything this system offers before deciding. I hope this is helpful.

Sound problems too - but still good
I've really enjoyed my DVR4000, but just wanted to let you know that I also noticed a difference in the sound between this unit vs my satelite receiver. Volume has to be turned way up on surround system. Warning - don't forget to turn it down before changing input LOL. Been there done that. However, I have to be honest in saying that there may well be an adjustment to the unit itself that I have overlooked in the manual.I've also had problems with some DVD's getting stuck/pausing. Most of the time it is a smudge on the disc. Sometimes it's not and I don't really know if that's typical of DVD players or not. I still don't know what's more irritating: watching a VHS tape with bad resolution or a DVD that sticks. Being that this is my first DVD player, I have nothing to compare it to.The VCR is good. It has the VCR+ ability for ease in recording. It is a 4 head, Hi Fi VCR, so I'm pleased since the unit replaced my old 2 head VCR. Love the tape speed adjustment feature that allows enough tape when running low. Tapes recorded on 2 head VCR's have pretty bad sound quality i.e. a lot of "wind" sound, but it's tolerable.
