So if you know the water is in the range of 35ppt, you can't make direct measurements. But, you could dilute the sample (say 10x) in the field using bottled water (has a salinity <<< sample) or DI water and that would put you at 3.5g/L roughly. You should be able to detect fluctuations at 0.1ppt on the diluted water which translates into detecting 1ppt fluctuations in the water. **Q: is the Exstick EC500 come with calibration certificate ?** A: No, it does not, but we can get you a Certificate of Conformance from Extech, when you purchase this product from our Amazon Store. **Q: how does it give two readings** A: Salinity in ppm Conductivity. And total dissolved solids. I really like this meter. I've now had 2 of these units quit calibration. 1 will not calibrate pH the other will not calibrate ec. They work well for a couple months and then just won't calibrate any longer, change the probe calibrates then stops reading correctly tried new solutions tried soaking the probe tried resetting the meter changed the batteries and still not working.
