Great Information!
I've got a fleet of rescued vintage sewing machines that I repair and rehome from time to time. Mike Riley's book is a wealth of info. I'll be referring to it often. His writing style is highly readable - relaxed, casual, packed with lots of humor.

Simple and Concise
I bought and read this book despite author Mike Riley's threat that it would "Make Sure Your Wife Will Stay With You Forever!" He appears far more convinced that that would be a good thing than I am. The book is very clear and straightforward. Mike does interject some humor to make an otherwise dry subject less tedious. It is a pretty quick read and may not include any information that you could not get in a 'Sailrite' video, but if you head offshore and need to repair sails, having it in print form might make all the difference as the internet is really not everywhere. This will be a shocking concept to many people these days! This book appears to be something of a 'print to order' thing. The Table of Contents neglects to include page numbers, leaves a few 'chapters' unlisted and there seems to be some question between it and the actual chapter title as to whether you will find a Pressure Foot or Presser Foot on your sewing machine. None of that precludes Mike explaining what you probably need to know to keep your sewing machine working properly!

EASY TO UNDERSTAND
This is the best book I've read on timing sewing machines.

Slightly shortchanged
The info contained was useful and realistic. The writing had a lot of joking asides, some of which was amusing and some seemed like filler. At 35ish pages it did need filler, but more drawings to clarify the writing would have been a much better. I got about $2.00 worth from this book which I paid $2.50 for so I feel slightly shortchanged.

Unless you are well versed in the sewing machine workings, avoid
Hardly any diagrams, if you do not know much about sewing machine parts and what they do, it would be impossible to use this book. You would definitely be better off going on youtube.com and watching a video. I gave 2 stars because it was amusing, but really talked mainly about Sailrite machines to repair sails on his sailboat. I find it very hard to believe that a domestic sewing machine could handle sewing a sail

She loved it.
Got this book for a friend who wanted to learn how to fix her machines. She loved it.

Misinformation
The author makes several inacurate statements. The hook in my machine revolves in a full circle. He gives measurements from different locations on the needle (very important).

missing picture
The book is missing some picture so we can understand exactly which part he is speaking about.
