I’ve had two of these installed by plumbers and after watching them I was sure I could do this. The professionals only replaced the valve assembly, ignoring the screen and the duckbill. The toilet I worked on still had a clean screen, but the valve would not execute a full flush at times. When the old duckbill was removed it was distorted. I had to pry it lose from the cap. I lubricated the new one with some Dawn liquid soap. Installing the valve is simple. Take your time as not to drop any components into the tank. The tricky part is tuning the plunger action, also do not tighten the setscrew to full torque, this will potentially crack the adjustment rod that the thumbwheel attaches to. You will need to flush several times while watching the action of the thumbwheel cap. The proper height could be very close to the pushrod depending on its bends and angle. Time consuming to get this right, but easy to do.
