Life in the Marshall Islands: Then and Now

Perfect for one of my peeps
I bought this book for a student of mine who lives here in California but was born in the Marshall islands. He's a special needs kid, meaning he's smart as a whip but dyslexic. I find the Marshalese experience interesting and, although this is a book for kids written by kids, I learned a bit in reading it. My student took it eagerly from me and started reading right away. I'm hoping he understands the gift in part as my way of showing honor to him and his cultural background. If so, that's a win-win-win for a teacher: a kid learning some of his history, while seeing that others value him and his roots, and all the while getting in some reading practice.

Well-received by kids
The children I'm working with, some of whom have parents from the Marshall Islands, have enjoyed this book very much. They love the photographs of children who look like them and the idea that children of their own age created the book.

Very special book from the Marshall Islands
We loved getting this book that was written with such love. The photos of the children and their bios makes gives it so much character and meaning. The teachers put a great deal of time in helping the students. Thank you Unbound Bookmaker.
