Great product and it simply works!
This is a very simple product to use to test a variety of cables. Very easy to read and provides quick, accurate information. Although a small item, very solid built product. Don't know about $45.99 that I spent (as I found that to be a bit high for a price tag), BUT, I couldn't find anything to compare it to. But it very functional and works great!

Great little USB cable tester
This cable tester is just what I needed to sort out my USB cables. Works great and is easy to use. Lots of info for cable test including E chip. This will save you a lot of grief if you use it to test and mark your cables. Very pleased with it.

Won't detect mis-wiring, or shorted cables. Otherwise best device I'm aware of.
This is currently the best USB cable tester available at a reasonable price that I am aware of.Unfortunately, it is not as good as it could have been. For example, while it will tell you if there is a broken wire in your cable, it will not tell you if VCC is shorted to GND on one of the VCC pins, and it will not tell you that D+ is swapped with D-, or D+ is shorted to D- etc. This is great for identifying what the cable is capable of, and if the e-marker lies about its high speed capability, but it will not tell you if the cable is mis-wired (this would be easy to do), or if the wires it uses are actually capable of transmitting data at the speed the e-marker says it can (checking impedance and cross talk. This would be hard to do, and I did not expect that of this device). It would be nice if it would measure the resistance of every wire instead of just the power connections (medium difficulty, but could still be done in a reasonably priced device).Perhaps their next iteration of this product will at least detect mis-wired or shorted cables.

Easy to use and flexible
This is a handy little tester that helps you determine the properties of a cable, which often aren't obvious just by looking at the cable. It's very easy to use and although the display is fairly small, it is easy to read because the information is presented in an organized fashion. This tester supports cables with USB A or USSB C on one end, and either USB C, Micro USB, Mini USB, or Micro USB "3.0". Unfortunately it does not support USB B ("printer style") connections or USB B 3.0 style cables. Since those connectors are larger, I believe it would require the tester to be thicker. Additionally, this tester does not support lightning cables. There are 4 "screens" of information which you cycle through by pressing a (very) small button. The first screen is an overshowing if the cable can transmit data and power, and which type(s). The second screen shows the actual wire connections and their status. The third screen shows the cable resistance and can estimate the cable length, and the 4th screen will show the details of an active chip if there is one in the cable.Every computer technician or enthusiast should have one of these in their bag!PROS:* Small and easy to use* Gives you all of the details you need to know about a cable* Flexible and supports a number of common cable types and configurationsCONS:* Does not support USB B, USB B 3.0, or lightning* Button to move between screens is a bit small

Highly, highly recommend - a lifesaver
I have to put in the strongest possible recommendation to get one of these devices - which are unique on the market in terms of reading the data capacity of cables - if you have a huge box of USB-C cables sitting around. This helps weed out:- Power-only USB cables- USB 2.0-spec USB-C cables (which are next to useless)Which leaves the useful ones: USB 3.2 (10gbps), TB3 (20gbps) and TB4/5 (40gbps). For these, 3.2 is determined by the unit by electrical characteristics, and the other types are ascertained by reading an e-marker in the cable. One end of the cable plugs into the "power" side of the unit, the other plugs into the bottom edge (the termination). So you can test cables that have USB-A or USB-C on one end and micro, mini, USB-C, and lightning on the other. On the "basic" side, you can read the PD standards a cable adheres to; the e-marker screen will tell you actual watt ratings for 3.2 and Thunderbolt cables.Battery life is not great, but this unit can also be powered externally.

Took a recommendation from Mastodon, and it was right! This is a cool USB cable info thingy!
Wow, very cool.I have a box of random USB cables acquired over the years, and decided I finally needed to sort through them...discard the pure junk ones, and label the ones I'm keeping. I saw somebody on Mastodon say this USB cable thingy was useful, and 100% they were right! Simple to use, gives a number of good stats (like does the cable support USB PD? Which version? What's the transfer rate it supports?), and helped me do what I wanted.

Great little device for random cables
I really do like this thing. First and foremost, I use it to reduce my cable clutter and decide which USBs to keep. Also, I use it to determine which cables I need to take with me, because some of my devices do not have fast charging speeds or data transfers.

Mostly good but broken after 2 uses
Well, assuming the test results are accurate, this tester is easy to use and the display is clear and I would give it 5 stars. HOWEVER, after only 2 uses (had it in the box unopened for a couple of months), the micro switch that turns the unit on and off completely disentegrated. I opened the unit, removed the broken slivers of plastic that comprised the switch, and am headed to my garage to solder the power connections in place so that at least I can still use the unit if I remove the battery to turn it off and reinsert it to turn it on. If this hassle is ok with you, then consider it a 5-star unit. If having to do this after only 2 uses is as frustrating to you as it is to me, the 1 star review is accurate.
