My favorites were Tannoy PBM-8 which were powered by an Alesis amp. It was a dream setup because I needed no eq to balance them the audio. Whether I was listening to hip hop or freestyle, rock or jazz, Steely Dan or David Benoit, everything sounded great.Fast forward to now. You'd think that Alesis, having been in the pro audio business as long as they have, would produce a better, more balanced, set of near fields than these. Yeah, for 3" drivers, they're pretty bassy. But that's the problem. The entire package is just too bassy. Gone are the sizzles and sibilance which makes tracks stand out. And I'm talking about via the USB, all digital, hookup from my computer. When I hook them up to the headphone out jack, they're just too bassy and noisy. Completely unusable for a professional situation. Sorry, guys. Back in the water for you. Maybe a simple bass and treble eq built into the units might help.
