If you are a gray muzzle (like me) who poured quarters into arcade machines, or a young XBox player who loves modern graphics, this movie is great.Suitable for all ages (yes, a few bad words and arcade combat, NOT GORY), this is a great family film. Good acting, great story, and very entertaining. If you read the book, this follows it very well, with a few liberties for cinematic reasons.Get out the popcorn and Gobstoppers...it is Movie Night!

Watched this a second time May 2023. Still a fun movie. Good special effects and an all around well done movie.

liked how there was a huge crossover of characters from other games and franchises. iron giant and delorean were my favorite.

Ready Player One: 8 out of 10: Based on the best selling novel Ready Player One tells the tale of a poor kid in future Cleveland who tries to beat an online game to win a great prize.I really wanted to hate this movie. Damn you, Spielberg. In essence, this is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with a heavy dose of The Lego Movie and Wreck it, Ralph. It is almost all CGI with endless pop culture references, particularly about the eighties. Ugh, seriously how did Spielberg pull this off. It should have been an unbearable cringefest.On to the questions.Why do I hate the eighties so much? I don’t but good lord it has been done to death. The eighties were a great time and had some really good entertainment. Much of that entertainment was about how the fifties were a great time mind you (Happy Days, Back to the Future). I understand how nostalgia works and you can set your watch by it. Spielberg surprisingly puts in more than just the eighties references that are in the book. This keeps it from being a stale oh I remember this geek fest. He also just lets the screen speak for itself so we don’t get that obnoxious hey look at this, don't you remember this, camera work so many films of this type seem to revel in.What was your favorite pop-culture cameo? I am not saying. Cause its a spoiler. But man my heart grew three times its normal size. I do need to call my cardiologist now that I think about it.What was your favorite story twist? I like the fact that the bad guy's big plan is to take over this virtual space and put in pop-up ads and microtransactions. I mean who can hate a movie where the bad guy is basically Electronic Arts or Activision or Comcast.So good social commentary then? There is the same vibe as Sorry to Bother You had in this film. A decent subplot about debt slavery to companies. Though the actual pictures certainly are different otherwise.The film also makes a very sly commentary on how it is necessary to change an original work to make it work on a film. Considering the changes that were made to the book I have to believe that was deliberate meta-commentary.Sounds like you had at least a few nitpicks no? Okay while the film was good about not focusing too much on cameos it did spend way to much time explaining certain plot points and trivia. To use an easy no spoiler example the main character decides to dress his avatar as Buckaroo Banzai for a date. Just dress him that way so it gives people in the audience the thrill to recognize the outfit instead of mentioning it in voice over and have every character seem to dwell on it.The ugly plain girl with the sexy avatar who doesn’t want the hero to see her in real life cause he would be repulsed is played by Olivia Cooke. You know the lead in that Vanity Fair miniseries your wife was watching. Yeah, they give her a birthmark or something but seriously? I can think of another cast member that honestly would have been a better match for our hero. But Hollywood has to Hollywood.Speaking of the film seems to make clear that this online place is the cause of many of the world's problems and for all its good intentions it is bad for society and the people in the same. I like to believe that the movie still shares this opinion at the end which makes the actual plot developments quite curious.Are you surprised you enjoyed yourself? I shouldn’t be. I liked Wreck it Ralph and both Lego movies. I had a hard time getting into Stranger Things but I will give it another try someday. Heck some of the aged remakes, reboots have been okay for example the new Blade Runner and um Friday the 13th maybe..? Okay, that is a work in progress. Point is I am not against nostalgia in practice as much as I seem to be in theory. When they start making films about the old days and it is your youth one quickly realizes I am not the young protagonist who gets the girl I am the old guy who dies after wasting his life playing games and watching movies.

Die USA, 2045: die Zivilisation ist weitestgehend zusammengebrochen; die Menschen vegetieren in Trailerpark-ähnlichen Hochhäusern dahin und entfliehen der jämmerlichen Realität in die „Oasis“. Diese virtuelle Realität wurde von dem vor einigen Jahren verstorbenen, genialen Game-Designer Halliday designet, der sein Vermächtnis nicht irgendjemand hinterlassen wollte, sondern den potentiellen Nachfolger vor eine besondere Herausforderung stellte: in der Oasis sind drei Schlüssel versteckt, die zu einem Easter Egg führen und somit das gesamte Games-Imperium an den Rätsellöser vererben. Diesem Easter Egg ist der Gamer Parzival auf der Spur und am nächsten, aber der übermächtige Konkurrenz-Konzern IOI in persona vertreten durch Nolan Sorrento ist dem Easter Egg ebenfalls ziemlich nah, und denen ist jedes Mittel zum Erfolg recht...Kurze Rede, noch kürzerer Sinn: das ist in wenigen Worten die Story von „Ready Player One“. Ein Underdog, eher zufällig vereint mit ein paar Gleichgesinnten im Kampf gegen ein übermächtiges System, das quasi die Cyber-Weltherrschaft anstrebt. Das Ganze ist angesiedelt in einer riesigen Game-Kulisse, und in nur wenigen Szenen hält die trostlose Wirklichkeit Einzug.„Ready Player One“ ist ein wahrer Fundus für (lebensältere, wohlgemerkt) Gamer, die bereits in den Achtzigern am Amiga und später auf Konsolen alle mögliche Spiele zockten. Auch viele Filmliebhaber, die entweder alt genug oder bereits in jungen Jahren gewissermaßen Nostalgiker sind werden in dem Film zu ihrer Freude jede Menge Altbekannte und andere Fingerzeige auf die gute, alte Zeit vorfinden. Sehr schön: auch der Zauberspruch aus dem 80er Jahre-Klassiker „Excalibur“ von John Boorman findet hier wieder Anwendung. Hinzu kommt noch der oft kongenial passende 80ies-Soundtrack, der ab und an die besondere Würze im Geschehen ausmacht. Highlight des Filmes ist für mich definitiv die „Shining“-Hommage.Letztendlich ist „Ready Player One“ jedoch ein Effekte- und CGI-Gewitter, das nur durch die erfahrene Regie-Hand von Steven Spielberg davor gerettet wird, ein komplett seelenloses Special Effects-Getöse zu werden. Spielberg schafft es im Schlussakt, ein paar glaubwürdige Emotionen zu erzeugen; in den Händen eines weniger versierten Regisseurs hätte das Geblitze wohl epileptische Anfälle zur Folge.Audiovisuell wird mit dieser Veröffentlichung fast immer feinstes geboten, was nicht weiter verwundert: so ziemlich der gesamte Film ist am Rechner entstanden. Selbst die paar „Real“-Szenen dürften vor der Green-/ Bluescreen entstanden sein. Selbst diese Realszenen wirken unnatürlich, sind farblich deutlich verändert und entsättigt. Trotz der Endzeit-Tristesse wirken diese Szenen irgendwie steril. Sämtliche Parameter wie Schärfe, Kontrast, Schwarzwert und Farbgebung sind für sich genommen sehr gut. Die 3D-Version ist sicherlich der Hammer, denn „Ready Player One“ ist eindeutig für die stereoskopische Auswertung angelegt. Davon mag der Film profitieren, besser wird er dadurch nicht.Der Core des in Atmos vorliegenden deutschen Tracks ist von Beginn an recht präsent. Alle Speaker werden permanent mit Signalen beliefert, so dass man auch in ruhigeren Szenen stets von Geräuschen umgeben ist. Die Dialoge sind auch im größten Gewühl immer verständlich; Stimmen und Geräusche sind genau ortbar und das ganze wird begleitet von einem saumäßig druckvollen Bass. Besonders in der „Cataclysm“-Szene (so hieß es glaub ich) rieselt ordentlich Putz aus der Decke.Bei den Extras schließe ich mich den Vorbewertern an, da nicht gesehen. Die Veröffentlichung verfügt über ein Wendecover und eine Digital Copy.Mein persönliches Fazit: nicht meine Art von Film. Wohl weil es wie z. B. "X-Men: Apocalypse" oder auch "Avengers: Infinity War" genau die Art von Film darstellt, die besonders auf die Smartphone-Zielgruppe zugeschnitten ist und permanent einen neuen visuellen Reiz generiert, um diese auch bei der Stange zu halten. Erzählerisch ist "Ready Player One" recht deutlich stärker als die Genannten, aber dennoch wird der Tiefgang vernachlässigt; und deshalb lässt sich die Story auch in so wenigen Worten wiedergeben.Und trotzdem: da mich Spielberg mit seinen letzten Werken (hier sollen besonders „Bridge of Spies“ und „Die Verlegerin“ als Beispiel herhalten) einen Ticken mehr gelangweilt als unterhalten hat ist „Ready Player One“ unterhaltsamer als die Genannten. Weil ich „Bridge oft Spies“ seinerzeit 4 Story-Sterne gab muss ich hier fairerweise gleichziehen, ansonsten wären es eher 3 Balken geworden.

作品は以前いろいろ観てたけどリンカーンが個人的にいまいちで遠ざかってました。この映画は良い情報で知り購入。いやいや、面白い！ブルーレイは映像/音声いいですね。

一気呵成に魅せる、完成度の高いエンターテイメントだ。｢マトリックス｣｢インセプション｣｢サマー･ウオーズ｣に続く仮想現実リスクへの警鐘メッセージを、子供から大人まで判りやすく表現したスピルバーグらしい、シャープなマーケティングが光る作品。馴染みやすいディズニーテイストのCG、ハリー･ポッター張りの謎解きシナリオ、そして普通の若者達による勧善懲悪チームプレイと、娯楽の黄金律がバリバリに効いている。更に40-50歳台の親世代が子供の頃に興奮したキャラクターの記憶を徹底的にくすぐるのだから畏れ入る。アニメやゲーム界の歴史を創造した特に70-80年代の日米クリエイターへのリスペクトがあらゆる場面で感じられたのが素直に嬉しい。メカゴジラにガンダム、AKIRAのハリウッド出演なんて誰が想像出来たろう？但し、本筋はやはりバーチャルとリアルの関係性が示す未来社会の不安感にあり、そこはシッカリ押さえた安心堂々のラストになっている。惜しむらくは“ジュラシック･パーク”や“ETを載せた自転車”の様な親しみやすく明示的なアイコンが無いことか。何もかもが計算し尽くされた作品なのに、それを感じさせない怒濤のストーリーと映像で魅了する痛快作。やはりスピルバーグ、恐るべしだ。

En mi opinión, una película espectacular para los ochenteros, puede recordarse la música, juegos, y manera de hacer de esa década. Además los efectos especiales, banda sonora y guión impresionantes.
