Terrific Bike Bag - Small size is perfect for my needs.
This relates to the SMALL size BV Bike Strap On Seat Bag. When it came to researching the best bike bag (for which I probably spent way too much time), the most important question I had to answer was how would I use this bag? Was I looking to store the basics of on-road repair, or was I looking to carry a myriad of personal items? In my case, I was looking for the basics, plus perhaps a little extra room if I wanted to hold keys, license or extra phone charger. I also wanted to make sure the bag did not extend beyond the profile of my seat and obviously did not want it to brush up against my legs. For me - the Small size BV bag was perfect. Regarding the "profile" note that your type of bike, seat and seat positioning make a difference. So reading about what works for others may not be a good reference, at least without photos, which I've included. My bag carries: 1-Replacement tube; 1-Crank Brothers 21 toolset; 2-tire levers; 1-Pro Bike CO2 Inflator w/Canister; 2 CO2 cartridges. To be fair, it is a tight fit and takes a little puzzling to get the best configuration. But as I thankfully, rarely need access to the items, it's fine. Though I'm not a weight weenie, I do like to keep things streamlined. I also slide my license and a key in without a problem. However, as many people ask, the small size would not also accommodate my phone, which I keep it on my handlebars anyway, so that is not an issue. I did visit a number of bike shops to see what they carried, more for size than anything. The Amazon pricing was considerably cheaper than in bike shops. I know the medium size has a collapsible expander, which would be great for the small as well, but honestly, it's not necessary. I would definitely buy a BV again as it straps on tightly (watch their installation video), is well constructed, has a net pouch inside and a strap to clip on a light. I may try the medium on my hybrid mountain bike just for comparison and will write about it if I do.

Quality Product, First Rate Customer Service
Just a few weeks after purchasing this bag from Amazon, I noticed some loose stitching on the strap that secures the bag to a bike's seat post. No big deal; didn't pay much attention to it. Forward a few more weeks and it now (the seat post strap) is literally hanging by a thread. The bag itself worked out fine for me in terms of its size and limited space as all I put in it were car keys, a tire repair kit and lens cleaner; not even half filled up. That, along with the fact that the bag was properly mounted and hardly ever removed for its under seat mount makes me think the stitching or assembly process in general of this bag is or was lacking. Maybe it's a one-off and not a common problem with most of these but for me, it's proving to be useless. 12/02/2016: Soon after writing the original review, a customer service rep from BV (Ibera) got in contact and at this point, the problem I'd been having with the bag will be taken care of immediately. Quite impressed I must say. Quality customer care is an obvious concern of theirs as I've come to find out; all good. Regarding the bag itself; notwithstanding the problem described previously, it's quite useful. I don't carry much gear at all on my training rides save a tire puncture repair kit, CO2 cartridges, car keys and a few eyeglass lens cleaners. With that rather limited number of items I carry , for me it's the perfect size and solution as its well designed zippered enclosure is easy to access with the bag on-bike and the fact that it mounts under the seat (out of the way), it's easy to forget it's even there. Bottom line, works great for me.

I Bought Both - Buy The Large Size
I bought this bag in Medium and Large, and recommend getting the Large. Any bike that can handle the Medium will likely be able to handle the Large, but the small difference in size makes the Large much more useful. The Large can fit a Pro Bike mini pump, a few mini tools, a rag and a Cliff bar. Being shorter, the Medium could only fit the Pro Bike pump diagonally, making the rest of the space difficult to fill in an efficient way. Both sizes have a nylon loop on the back for holding a reflector or light (see photo), and the reflective stripe on the bags can be customized with a wide chisel-tip Sharpie. I colored the stripes on my bags to match my 1988 Nishiki Colorados (see photos). Both bags in the photos are size Large. I don't think the zippered expansion feature on the bottom of the bag is well thought out: in order to make use of the extra space created when unzipped, you have to loosen up the attachment strap that encircles the bag, leaving the bag to bounce and flop around while riding. The attachment strap could have been sewn on the bag on each side above the expansion zipper, leaving the expansion area beneath and unaffected by the strap. Overall, the bag is well made, handsome and very reasonable. Highly recommended.

How could it be better?
If you're going on long rides, you're going to want to carry those essential tools to prevent yourself from getting stranded. If you're on a road bike keeping it light you're not going to want a huge bag like on a touring bike. You're not going to want to carry all those tools in your jersey either. There's enough stuff in those pockets already. An under-saddle bag is the solution, and that's what this is. Maybe there's a better one out there, but this one has worked for me with several years with no signs of wearing out. I also can't imagine what there is to improve upon. First, it has enough storage capacity for everything I need on the road. Tubes, CO2, levers, tools, patch kit, everything. It's a bit cramped, but it all fits and zips closed no problem. You can also undo one zipper to increase the capacity a bit if things are really tight. I'm not sure if it's technically water proof or water resistant, but I have been caught in the rain a few times, and nothing in the bag has ever gotten wet. It straps on to the bicycle very securely and tightly. It is very easy to take it off and put it back on, for example when I'm cleaning the bike. When secured properly it doesn't wobble or anything. I don't even realize it's there while I'm riding. On top of all that, it has a little tab on the back. My red rear light clips onto that tab perfectly. Pretty sure that's intentional, but it's still a great feature. If you need a saddle bag on your bike, and you can't find something even better, you should have no concerns about buying this one.

Large is a relative term
This is a wonderful little bag. It is thoughtfully designed, sturdy, and useful. I’ve only used it for short rides of about an hour each, but appreciate the comfort of knowing I am carrying everything I need to fix a flat in a package that is easy to install and remove, tucks securely under my seat, doesn’t wobble around or get in the way of my riding, has reflective tape, and a double zipper for easy access from both sides. Mine is size “large,” which I would call “large enough.” On my Polygon Extrada 7 MTB, it holds an inner tube for 29”x2.25” tire, multi tool that is 3”x1.75”x1”, 3 tire levers, small patch kit, CO2 inflator with cartridge, and 10”x12” microfiber towel. There is about 2 cubic inches to spare, like 2 energy bars. It’s good to know that there is also extra room in the drop down pouch should I need it. Yesterday I had a flat rear tire and I was back on the bike path in about 15 minutes. Was I glad to have everything I needed! I’m also glad I ordered a “large.”

Bigger on the inside (small size)
This thing is great, I replaced one of those complete tool kit bags with this as that bag was pretty terrible. I ordered the small based on some of the other reviews. I wanted to smallest bag possible so it was out of the way and didn't add any bulk. I got the small with the notion I could always return it for the medium if needed, spoiler, it was not needed. This holds way more than you think by looking at it. I fit 2 tire levers, a 27" tube, multi-tool, 2 16g CO2 cartridges and infiltrator, and still has some room for me to shove a key or two and some other stuff (I mount my phone or put in my jersey pocket). The light loop is in a great spot so my tail light isn't drooping down and can be an actual tail light. The mounting system is super easy to use and keeps it snug against to bottom of the seat while still being easy to access while on the bike.. I can't really speak for waterproofness, but I would stay as long as you don't ride into a body of water it should keep the contents dry for the most part. Security is 2 zippers, so unless you bring a lock with you it's pretty nonexistent, which I don't think would matter to most unless you have a gang of bike tool thieves in your area.

Great design and implementation, highly recommend
I'm not surprised that this cycle seat bag has such high reviews (and top seller in category if I'm not mistaken). The bag comes in three sizes, for this review I will only discuss the Large size. Good: -Construction is solid. No obvious defects or points of potential failure. -Ample room. I was able to fit (without using expansion): -Multitool -CO2 cartridge and adapter -spare tube -two tire levers -latex gloves with patch kit and link -2 cliff bars -a concealed carry (Sig Sauer P238). -There was space for my car key and my phone as well, but that would be about the limit without expanding it. -Internal hook and mesh netting for keys. Extra layer of security. -Simple attachment mechanism. -Thin profile -- does not stick out wider than even a narrow seat. Bad: -Seat tube strap is FAR too long to give a tight fit. You will have to cut and resew if you wish to have it snugly attached to seat post. -Has a horizontal strap on back to attach light. Most lights attach horizontally because they would normally go around the seat tube. Consequently, I had to attach my light sideways. An additional vertical strap just above the horizontal strap would resolve this problem. -Bag does sway side to side, but this is unavoidable. During riding I do not think it will affect anything. Only way to avoid is to have an internal frame so you can tighten the seat strap completely. Without frame, the bag will just collapse in on itself. During rides, it may be a good idea to cinch down the strap fully and let the bag compress onto the contents to minimize swaying. Bottom line: The bag is great and I would absolutely recommend it. To the manufacturer, I would suggest incorporating my two recommendations (seat tube strap length & vertical strap in back) for future iterations of this great product. Until the manufacturer applies the recommendations, a rider can always take the bag to a sew shop and have the modifications done for just a few dollars. I've included a couple pictures: A side profile with ruler (~6.5" deep) and a perspective angle.

durability, storage capacity, and functionality
I have had this for 2.5 years now and I don’t ride, and can’t imagine not having this LARGE size bag on rides. Plenty of room for ride essentials. It’s expandable and this feature allows me to cram everything I need for long rides in this bag. I did spray with water repellant twice over the last couple years and it still works great. 5 stars for durability, storage capacity, and functionality. Oh! And co$t. So inexpensive for such a valuable item to have on rides! Update: March 2021. Thinking about buying the same bag again as it is now 5 years old and starting to show some wear. But good grief! For the conditions I’ve ridden in, the amount of items I pack in there every ride, and general “abuse” I give it, this bag has been extremely durable. Straps easy under the seat. Has protected my essentials nicely close to about 20,000 miles over 5 years. Under $20. Can’t beat it.

Very practical saddle bag.
I've now got three of these fitted to my various bikes, as they are well made, at a good price, and can easily take all sorts of stuff. As these bags go, they also look pretty good too, with their muted colours not drawing attention, but with reflective strips for a bit of added safety. This latest bag was purchased for my Fat Bike, and it holds two spare fat bike tubes, without needing to unzip the lower expanding part, so these bags can carry a lot of stuff should you need to. These bags seem to be waterproof too. I've pressure washed them to get the worst of the mud off and not found any water ingress so far. I do only use these bags for carrying spare tubes and tyre levers, so I'm not opening and closing them all the time, but they seem well made and the zips so far haven't caused me any bother.

Well designed - sturdy
This is a well-constructed bag. Small is small, but I was able to fit 1 innertube, 1 multi-tool, a set of tire levers, a pair of latex gloves, a patch kit, and a set of car keys. One strap goes around the seat tube, the other strap goes through the saddle frame, under the bag, and clips on the side, which can be cinched tightly, no wobble or sway. A decent zipper and a good-sized loop for a clip-on rear light.

Installs easily, stores a TON of stuff, very nifty
The bag itself is very well made, the material feels good, although I have yet to see if it is waterproof and dustproof. There is ample storage space to hold my 6” phone, wallet, keys, power bank & USB cables, multi-tool, and patch kit with a little bit of room to spare. The small strap on the back of the bag is also very useful for mounting my rear light. No issues with it. After reading what others experienced with the size medium, I ordered the size large and don't regret it in the slightest. The expandable section allows me to store pretty much everything I need for long rides. The installation is very easy and during rides the bag holds steady with no swaying or slack. Also, the reflective lining on the sides is a great plus. Using the bag for a year and the only wear on it is a small patch where it contacts the saddle stem. I would definitely recommend this product.
