Unfortunately we are a culture predominately geared to our personal preferences. Also unfortunately, most of us are too liberal with theology and too strict with methodology. Fortunately, the creators of Hero reverse the trend and remain orthodox in the theological message (the Gospel) while creating a fresh, contemporary, relatable context to help us in a 21st century see the life and purpose and accomplishment of Christ! Obviously, there must be altered elements in a 2 hour opera for the Gospel accounts to carry over to the contemporary culture but all the alterations were prayerfully, wisely, and effectively achieved. Those familiar with the NT will easily see the events that are presented in Hero are directly taken from the Gospel accounts. I'm a pastor and my particular fellowship would likely not prefer a rap/rock genre but I offer my highest recommendation to whoever will give it a chance. I am not a rap fan but rather love rock, folk, and blues primarily. The rock opera provides different genres of music for all to appreciate. It was no problem for me (one who dislikes rap) to hear the several rap ditties because the message and purpose are so much greater than one's personal preference. I've only seen it twice but I've already started to enjoy the rap stuff too.
