Highlander - Endgame [Blu-ray]

One of the better sequels in the series
Having just had the chance to watch all 6 of the series on Prime I rewatched this for the first time in many years. It is an interesting reworking of the myth and sort of fits after the series as a postscript - because he was too expensive Christopher Lambert only appeared in the first of the Highlander series but was mentioned a-plenty. Here you sort of get a reprise and an explanation of why you do not see him in the series. The baddy though is the most impressive performance, truly sociopathic and the final fight scene does not disappoint. It provides a requiem for Lambert and sort of happy ending for Duncan and fits before The Source which is very low-budget and disappointing.

A Welcome return to form for this series.
Anyone who watched Highlander, loved it, then watched the other sequals and felt that the first movie had been thoroughly betrayed (especially by Highlander II) would be forgiven for thinkign that this film will be yet another crap cash in, yet nothing could be farther from the truth.Put simply, endgame is a superb addition to the highlander series. It adds so much to the background of the films with the movie's trademark flashbacks, some of which are taken from original material that was cut from Highlander. But it doesn't stray too far from the original idea. OK there is no attempt to explain why after he won the prize - connor still finds himself in a world full of immortals, but when you watch this movie as an avid fan of the first (as I am) you come away loving it, and more than willing to forgive the series' inconsistencies. The ending is superb, the Nemesis is one of the best I have seen in ANY movie. an excellent film, and an essential for all fans of the original movie.

Show off your Televisions colour depth.
I purchased this at the same time as the original Highlander version (also on Bluray) and I have to say the quality of reproduction and depth of colour in both was of the highest standard. It really gives the movies a new lease of life and the shots that were set in Scotland looked amazing and attractive. If you are a Highlander fan you have to buy this and the original Highlander on bluray - if you are not then the reproduction and colour depth really shows your systems to their best

Good Effort but Flawed
There is a lot to like about this film but also a lot to get frustrated with, plus points like both Macleods together on the big screen are let down by a plot that doesn't make a huge amount of sense and a performance by Christopher Lambert who couldn't be less bothered. This film is more a spin-off from the brilliant t.v series and contains cameos from Joe Dawson and Methos (although not enough Methos, Peter Wingfield is only in a couple of scenes) but with actors for the original Highlander turning up as well which is nice, the plot is about revenge against 2 acts one by Connor one by Duncan which have come back to bite them in a big way, Bruce Payne makes a good fist of the bad guy role, he does tend to do some odd things but he at least looks like he is having fun. Overall there is some stuff to like good action, nods to highlander history, Methos, but it's let down by a plot that is a bit stupid, characters whose motivation is frankly odd and a completely phoned in performance by Lambert, still there's enough for fans to like here.

Liked it
I have liked the Highlander movies since the original as I thought Christopher Lambert was hot plus I enjoyed the storyline. This one is close to the original but it clearly is the last one
