The medium was perfect for my 40 inch chest. That said, I have a 29 inch waist, I'm 5'8" and weigh 142lbs.Not being a jackass--Gentlemen, you need remember these were designed for British Commandos, who tend to be in exceptional physical condition.The waist is DRAMATICALLY cinched in from the shoulders.If you have a pronounced gut, this will not only show it, though accentuate it to comical proportions.I've read the reviews about ordering a size up, and that may be the case if your chest is larger than your waist by more than six inches.Ideally, these are designed for men having a chest at least nine inches greater than their waist (order to size, if this is your case.)Any less and the vertical ribs at the waist will splay out and you will look like a weisswurst in an ill-fitting sausage casing.Final analysis--a splendidly made and beautifully-fitting sweater IF fit enough to approximate the bodies it was designed for.

I've been meaning to get one of these for 2 or 3 years and now that I finally committed I feel dumb for not doing it sooner. I'm 6'1" and 235lbs and got the XL. It fits perfectly. It's only been a little chilly so far so I haven't been able to really test it in the harsh cold. On chilly days it's great. I've even worn this in the rain and while my pants were soaked this kept me dry and warm until everything had evaporated off of me. On windy days you do feel the breeze get through it but it's bearable. Just wear a long sleeve on those days and you'll be fine. I'm not planning on buying another one but instead I'll be buying several. This has been one of the best buys I've ever made.

I really like this wooly pully. Ordered up a size, perfect fit. The only thing I don’t like about it is that the V neck is a very deep cut, which makes it hard to pair with shirts because so much shirt is showing. I wear mine for hunting mostly though, so it’s not a huge concern. Very warm, scratchy, fantastic wool.

This is a great sweater. It's very warm on those cold winter days. This is a form fitting sweater but it does and will stretch over time, however, the sweater is not constrictive when moving. I've had several of these through the years for work and none of them have ever pilled like some sweaters do. Very well constructed by the Brits.

The product runs on the small side. I normally buy medium but this was too tight.

This is a quality sweater that will last for years. I'm a wool lover for its OG outdoor performance and this one delivers in spades, along with an element of style. Pair with some khakis and nice boots to evoke some classic military style.
