The strap is really nice to have, and feels very sturdy. Just make sure you install it in the right orientation the first time. The sound quality is very, very good, and stays good at high volume. Not quite good enough for an absolute purist audiophile, but way better than the typical listener might expect or need in order to be satisfied. The ULT button is useful, but I recommend using the graphic equalizer on your phone to fine tune it, if you can. Battery life is great as long as you aren't pushing the volume to max or almost max all day. The lights are a bit bright but you can turn them off, or dim them in the app, and even change the pattern they move in. There are several useful features in the app, but I recommend printing the user manual from Sony's website. Also recommend getting a silicone cover and a zippered carrying case. Overall I feel this is the most practical and useful portable speaker I've ever had.

I was pleasantly surprised by this speaker. The sound quality is real good for a portable speaker. I’m going to consider it portable because it has a well thought out strap and you can take it places with you. It is kind of heavy and large, but the dimensions are in the product description so nothing that I didn’t already know. The build quality of this speaker is top notch. When you hold it in your hand you feel like you got something for your money. The materials look and feel good, and the bass speakers in the end are well protected and punchy. I use this on a sailboat, pontoon boat, camping trips, and in the backyard. It just works and sounds great everywhere. I have gotten it wet and used it in very dusty environments with no issues. As far as sound goes, I’m not sure you could beat it with a speaker the same size or price. It is crisp and bass sounds good. At 100% volume it gets a little out of control but that is almost every speaker on the market. The battery life is all day with no issues. It has never died and I have used it for 10+ hours straight.

Those who wants extra bass with clear sound and premium feel with app support and good connectivity just go for it. Performance of this speaker will impress you, battery life is great. I have not timed it, but the battery last for several days with multiple hours of use per day. I'm confident the battery claims from Sony are accurate. Absolutely love this speaker. Got it on a huge sale so thats even better. Sounds great and it thumps too. Easy to hook up and start jamming. I've had multiple people ask me what speaker and where they can get one for themselves. Overall im in love with this thing. Bought it to take with me and a few friends to play some basketball, but now I use it all the time. I even use it instead of turning on my home stereo system now most of the time.

Review – Sony ULT Field 5 (2 Months of Use) First Impressions & Context For its price and size, the sound performance (power and overall quality) is above what I initially expected. However, it weighs close to 8 pounds. Carrying it short distances is fine, but for longer walks or if you’re already carrying other items, the weight becomes noticeable. My first impression was actually underwhelming, but that was influenced by context. I tested it in the same small room where I use a 5.1 home theater system (Sony STR-K5 750W 5.1 Home Theater System with a large subwoofer). I am used to that level of low-end presence in a confined space, so my expectations were biased. Real-World Use Case My goal was simple: energize a 10–15 m² indoor space with around 6 people. For that purpose, it performs well. Indoors, once you push it past 50% volume, it feels powerful and engaging. Below 30–40%, it does not feel particularly strong. It needs some volume to “wake up.” Outdoors is a different story. Sound disperses quickly without walls to reflect it, and the perceived impact drops significantly. While it still works for a table or small group setup, it does not project that “wow” presence from a distance. At around 20 meters, you won’t feel much presence. If your goal is to impress people in an open area, this may fall short. Sound Performance ULT Mode: I mostly use ULT 2 because it delivers the extra punch I was looking for. ULT 1 feels more controlled, but ULT 2 brings the energy. Bass: For its size and price, bass performance is strong—especially in ULT 2. In small rooms, it can be surprisingly impactful. In open spaces up to around 10 meters, it still performs decently, but beyond that, the impact fades. Highs: Sony has improved here. Highs and lows blend well, and the sound does not feel muddy or overly bass-heavy. The tuning is balanced, though there is still room for refinement at higher volumes. I have not pushed it to 100% volume yet, but based on other user feedback, distortion seems well controlled. Battery Battery life meets expectations. I use the 90% charge protection feature and typically listen around 60% volume. With that setup, it easily lasts through a full day outing. No complaints here. Portability & Build Build quality feels solid and premium. The weight suggests there is serious hardware inside. Materials and assembly feel compact and well put together. That said, portability is relative. The shoulder strap helps, but at nearly 8 pounds, it’s not something you casually carry long distances without noticing. App & Connectivity The Sony app is simple, clean, and functional. It does what it needs to do without unnecessary complexity. Pairing was slightly confusing at first. I initially paired it under a Google account with multiple devices, and later had trouble connecting a different device. I ended up doing a factory reset, which solved the issue. This may have been user error rather than a speaker problem. Latency has not been noticeable when watching videos, so synchronization seems solid. Lights In a dark room, the 360° party lights do add some atmosphere and can enhance the overall experience. They are not overly aggressive and complement the music nicely. That said, I personally do not use them often, mainly to preserve battery life. They are a nice feature to have, but not essential for my typical use. Amazon Delivery & Packaging The delivery experience was excellent. The unit arrived in perfect condition, very well packaged, with no dents or visible damage to the box. Everything was intact and properly protected. Overall, the shipping and handling were exactly what you would expect from Amazon—smooth and reliable. Final Thoughts I chose this over the JBL Xtreme 4, and for my specific indoor use case, it has been a good choice. However, if your main goal is strong outdoor projection and noticeable presence at a distance, you may want to consider something larger. Indoors, it performs confidently. Outdoors, it becomes more modest—more of a “table speaker” than a crowd-puller. Overall, I would describe my experience as positive but situational. It delivers strong performance for its size, but expectations need to match realistic acoustic limitations.

Wow, it’s loud and clear, heavy on the bass, lights are amusing lol

This is an amazing speaker, truly top notch in sound and build quality. It feels heavy, connects quickly as most SONY products do, there's no detail forgotten when it comes to features, yet its simplistic enough to not be overwhelming with options, and the straps to carry around the speaker are not an after thought. All around, a solid speaker that I feel is worth the price I paid (at the time $198, maybe not $350 but definitely $198) With that being said, it is NOT portable, at least for me. It gets heavy pretty quickly if you lug it around, even with the crossbody strap. If you're ok with being unable to grab the speaker and shove it into a bag or suitcase then I would opt for the smaller options for sure. If you frequent outdoor events enough to want a speaker of this physical caliber, or plan on using it as TV sound bar or static speaker system, then I would highly recommend. Over all, solid speaker, emphasis on the SOLID part of the speaker, it feels high quality and over engineered for heavy duty adventure and performance, it is just a big ass speaker that I personally wasn't ready for. I will unfortunately and begrudgingly have to return it, but if I could keep it I would.

This is a super amazing portable, mid-range bluetooth speaker. It sounds crisp and offers features such as the ULT sound boosting software, water resistance, while also boasting 68H of use using Stamina mode, which turns off ULT modes, EQ effects, and lighting to maximize longevity. Definitely give this speaker a try at your next gathering in a public park or patio with your friends and family -end. Overall a well-rounded speaker for the price range.

Don't get Confused just buy it, you won't regret. Sound quality is top notch, great clarity for a bluetooth speaker. It supports HIRes bluetooth codec like LDAC not many speakers have these although you need to be a android user. For better experience and comparison i suggest to visit store to experience the by yourself. For portability, it is heavy like 3.3kg but solder strap is given and with solder strap the portability is not an issue. Battery life of this speaker is also good and you can use external power source like ac adaptor also with type c and get extra boost on bass and volume. Party light is also very cool. Overall is a great speaker total value for money in this price, (better sound than JBL xtreme 4). Build quality of this very top notch, have ip67 rating. In the functionality, the Sony's party connect is there if you have Sony's other speakers which have this feature. Can connect two same speakers as in stereo although the speaker it self is stereo. In the back io panel there is also a aux in port for audio and the speaker can be a powerbank to charge your phone. All these things which make this speaker great in functionality. NOTE : In the back I/O panel 3.5mm port was given but sound amplifier doesn't work i.e volume is low compared to bluetooth. Same thing is also applied when you try your custom band eq in sound connect app. Apart from this everything is excellent and i am telling you this after 5 months of usage.

I own the XV-800 so very familiar with Sony. Was going to JBL Xtreme as I've used one during camping but wanted to give this a try. This is very high end to the touch and even when connected, you can sense the superior feeling. The ULT feature is noticeable and it's nice that I can switch between heavy bass, good mids to clear vocals depending on what I'm listening too. The strap is nice but surprised the metal loop isn't full built oppose to the current slide-slip way to install it. Hasn't slipped off but was nervous at times as I didn't want to drop it. The drivers perform great and I like how the ends are raised meaning while music is on full plastic, you can stack the speaker upright and the moving driver doesn't get distorted when flat on surface. Haven't tested it outdoors yet and truthfully don't plan too. Mainly using it for indoors, beach when the weather gets better and during camping. The battery life is amazing, since buying and to this post, just charged it for the first time as I finally got the low battery verbal signal. Use it daily for about an hour on ULT and mix with the lights on. Planning on pairing it with my 800 eventually. Very satisfied.

Amazing sound and looks good too

Excellent!! I am an audiophile! Having said that, I pay attention to all things sound quality related. If you are like me, MP3 files etc don’t cut it. This model was made for the demanding listener. Not all Bluetooth codecs are the same My FiiO M11+ portable player has Ldac and a 3.5 Line output. Both of these feature are able to be utilized on the Sony ult field 5. I play dsd and ripped cd files from my FiiO to the Sony. The sound of the Sony is often described as bass heavy. Nonsense. This speaker on the ult2 setting is rich full and natural. The speaker walks the fine line between just enough bass to sound natural,(bigger drivers) and reasonable Portability. The amplifier has decent power output to get to enthusiastic loudness, but still sounds very natural at modest levels as well, and a substantial sized lithium battery to have long all day listening sessions. Like other reviews have pointed out, the colour changing lights are a surprise. They are not too flashy, or over done. They add to the experience. The carry strap is very well made with the ends being metal and not plastic. The sound quality is very well tuned and musical. It is not boomy overblown bass. If you play lesser quality low bitrate files on a lesser Quality Bluetooth codecs, then perhaps you will have a different sound. But careful examination of this models features and build quality and its weight,(7lbs) will tell you the type of audio quality to expect at high bitrate playback over Ldac Bluetooth or direct line input, which is necessary for excellent sound quality. This is a portable Bluetooth speaker for the discerning listener. Well done Sony!
