Awesome! Just not what I was looking for
This is a really great resource for someone starting their journey in low/zero waste or slow/green/organic living. I had thought this would be a great read for someone who's out of the beginner stages and was a little disappointed that it wasn't. I may have misinterpreted the description so I can't say there was anything wrong with the book itself. Just my own expectations going in. Unfortunately whenever I see the title I still feel that way. :(That being said it's one of the few books I've read on the subject here in North America and so it was more relevant to me culturally than most of the books I've been reading on the subject. Most are based in the UK and have completely different structures and practices and attitudes in place. So advice on resources and how to get started can be very challenging and sometimes feeling like there's no way you can do it. This book though is inspiring and shows that anyone can do it and here's how.Great writing! And honestly I felt like I was reading a long note from my best friend of mom on how to get my sh*t together than a book by a stranger. Would definitely recommend to anyone over here getting started. And hoping she comes out with a part two!!

Imagine a sustainability encyclopedia that's fun to read!
I've often felt overwhelmed by the concept of 'greening' my life. Felt like I had to do 50 things simultaneously (reduce meat consumption, figure out how to cook vegetarian, replace all my cleaners with DIY recipes, get rid of plastic, stop driving my car, etc. and do it all tomorrow!). Give a Sh*t helps cut through that by showing you how to make incremental changes that over time add up to something big! The tone is light, conversational and occasionally goofy (in a good way) but shows a real passion for the substantive changes we need to make to build a better world. And while the book is fun to read, it's also organized in a way that makes it easy to use as a reference book with recipes for food and cleaners along with step by step guides for greening your life.

Really helpful primer for those starting an eco-journey
Ashlee Piper is exactly the author for this book. Non-judgmental and informative, Piper's fun and friendly tone is tongue-in-cheek while talking about a really terrifying topic: how humans have destroyed the planet. Of course individuals' actions aren't the only cause of climate emergency, but if we can do something, anything at all, why shouldn't we? This book is great for those who feel intimidated by zero-waste blogs and books that encourage you to ditch all your belongings and move to the woods to munch on bark. Piper (as evidenced by who she is) is still fashionable, social, and well-traveled all the while making the most earth-friendly choices she possibly can. She is also incredibly well-versed on the topic (she's an expert) on top of being able to write in a way that is accessible and helpful. Highly recommend.

I wish Ashlee could be my Fairy Earth Mother Girlfriend
Not only is this book absolutley hysterical and literally has you laughing out loud, but it's brilliantly helpful as well. I thought I was decent at protecting the planet, but realized there was so much more I could be doing with just a tiny bit more effort. Since buying the book I have started composting, cut down to only eating meat once a week, started recycling better, stopped using paper towels, started making my own detergent and cleaning supplies and so much more! The best part was that I didn't feel shamed into doing these things, I felt like they were told to me in such an easy fashion that it was a no-brainer to start giving a shit, doing good and living better. And let me tell you - it feels good. I can't wait to see what else my family and I can do. Thank you Ashlee!

Fun, digestible handbook about the "urgency of now"
What I love most about this book is that it corrals all the most important facts, figures, and advice about doing better in our everyday lives--from someone who truly walks the walk. For newbies, Piper includes the rudimentary stuff about recycling, heating/cooling, detoxing your closet, and easy vegan recipes but also goes deep, delving into specieism, inequality, and the ethics of re-use. She simplifies things like creating & using green cleaning kits for the home, (delivering in 4 pages what you'd spend an afternoon and untold clicks finding online.) In another writer's hands, "going green" could come off as preachy or dogmatic but Piper has a conversational and wry writing style that keeps you turning the pages. And, I'm going to make her "morning person morsels" first thing tomorrow because it sounds *absolutely* delicious; (she had me at g-free flour & fresh orange zest.)

I absolutely LOVE this book! A MUST READ!!
I want to start this off by saying that I NEVER write reviews, but as a fellow author, I had to give props where they are due with this one. I discovered Ashlee Piper while reading a copy of the ethical style journal magazine. I've been wanting to learn more (and do better), but haven't found a book that is 100% accessible and speaks to me. Until now. This book is everything I could have ever wanted in an ethical and sustainability guide. Ashlee breaks down every section of your life and how you make tangible changes to do better and save the planet. I have recommended this book to so many friends and am so happy that I purchased it. This is a MUST read for anyone who wants a non-preachy approach to living a better life. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Practical, Principled and Powerful
The book articulates a sustainability lifestyle from the bedroom, closet, and office in a nonjudgmental, practical, and fun way. As someone that is brand new to the movement and lifestyle, I was left feeling that the steps/ideas were easy to implement and that I could make a difference - with the changes growing as more people adopt the lifestyle. I was inspired by the facts provided and I laughed along the way while learning how and why these simple changes can have a profound impact. If you already are into the sustainability lifestyle - prepare to learn some cool new tips and tricks. If you’re a newbie (like me) prepare to learn and be inspired to adopt the lifestyle in a way much easier to adopt than you’d ever think possible. Highly recommended.

Damaged
I bought this as a Christmas gift, and it came damaged and creased all along the sides and corners. It looks like I bought it used instead of new.

Disappointing
The constant cursing made me not take this book seriously. The advice given is very basic and can easily be found by a simple search on the internet. I couldn't finish this book. A waste of time and money.

Read this book!
This is a wonderful, inspiring and harrowing read. Unfortunately the copy I received had a load of pages missing from the final chapter. More than a little frustrating. So I may need to buy another copy just to finish it.
