works perfectly for me
I bought this a week ago for my TomTom XL (as my 2 y.o. Garmin's usb connector has broken from too much use - 40,000 miles). So far I have used this AmazonBasics dashboard mount for about 20 hours driving in a 2013 Merc C class, a 2011 BMW 335i and a 2004 Subaru Forester. Works perfectly. I expected the original TomTom Easymount to be the weak point but so far it is still stuck on firmly. The dash mount itself remains rock solid on the dash within easy reach. Last night I was late for an appointment and drove my BMW sportingly. The mount did not budge an inch even in sudden sharp turns. I am very happy it is living up to the excellent performance of my Garmin dash mount. The only slight downside is that the dash mount is a little awkward to carry with the TomTom attached than the Garmin combi as the TomTom Easymount is shorter than the Garmin swan-neck and the TomTom is also prone to popping out of the TomTom clip ring.Edited to add (February 2014); I've been using this mount almost every day for a year now and it still performs perfectly. I'm going to buy another one for my new Garmin 2597LMT. The mount also works well in a 2013 Kia Picanto.

Excellent
I bought this for my TomTom 20, and it does the job. I've got a Golf and its rock solid on the dashboard. If this moves you probably need a three point harness and a roll cage in your car as well! The only minor point is that it has a sticky pad on the base. I don't see the point of this if you want to remove it from the dashboard regularly. If you don't want to use this sticky pad you can leave the plastic cover on, but this look a bit shiny and may hinder friction keeping the mount in place. I removed the sticky pad completely and the mount stays in place for me.

Superb - no regrets at all
Having bought a Tomtom25 I wanted to secure it to the dashboard rather than to the windscreen and as usual I spent hours googling away looking at the various options out there. I settled on this one because the reviews were on the whole very positive and I figured that if I wasnt entirely happy in time it wasnt a lot of money to write off (though I know Amazon are very accommodating when it comes to returns).I neednt have worried. We drove multiple journeys on a week long UK holiday and it worked perfectly. On the first few journeys I kept an eye on it, poised in the passenger seat to catch the satnav and/or dahsboard mount if it fell and after that it didnt occur to me that it might slip out of position. We are lucky enough to have a fairly flat surface on which it sits, but it gripped it beautifully and I give it five stars - money well spent.

Too Good!
We were delighted with our purchase of the AmazonBasics GPS Dashboard Mount. Despite it being considerably cheaper than similar products, we found it simple to use and stable in operation. We were less than delighted however, when our elder son arrived with his first GPS purchase. Having warned him of the dangers of sticking his GPS to the windscreen, thus advertising it's presence to would-be thieves, we proudly showed him our recent purchase. He decided that it was perfect for his needs, but that he should test it on his journey back to Yorkshire to be sure and announced 'since it is so cheap, you can soon buy another one, can't you? We have now purchased our second Dashboard mount. We are hiding it when our younger son visits! Highly recommended (but not to the family!)

Not perfect without some help!
I had a similar item to this with my old satnav. My old one had a flat round base with silicone on the whole of the base; it didn't move. Unfortunately, the sucker on my old satnav didn't work very well, so we used epoxy resin to permanently secure it. Hence when I bought a new satnav I also had to buy a new dashboard mount.I chose this one as I thought that the shape of the base would fit better in various cars and would be more stable. Wrong!!There is a small round piece of silicone (probably 2.5 inches diameter) in the middle underneath the base and the rest looks like rubber. It either falls off the dash or slides across when you go round corners, even when only going at a steady pace. Using it like this is very dangerous and distracting.I had read about this problem in other reviews, but I thought perhaps as I consider I'm quite a steady driver, I hoped that it would be O.K. Wrong!!!I have now resolved this problem by buying a silicone mat to put underneath it and that has resolved the issue. If it were redesigned with the base being all silicone, then I believe it would work perfectly.

Better than branded versions and much cheaper to buy.
Don't waste your time on more expensive brands. This is weighty and sits on the windscreen shelf holding the sat nav in place. You'd lose it off the shelf if you drive wildly but for most us it'll stay where put under normal conditions. And it means no more sucker marks on the windscreen. Sits in my glove box most of the time but a great accessory for a sat nav and as i say much cheaper than other branded names.

Effective in the right car, in some it is perfectly stable and in others it slips around
I read several reviews stating to avoid this product as it slides off the dashboard with its precious cargo (smart phone sat nav), but despite swinging some lively corners it didn't budge. Then, in my wife's car as she rounded her first corner in a more leisurely fashion the mount surprisingly just went flying into the footwell. So, I guess it depends on the dashboard surface but not th driver and I am happy and keep it in my car. The inclusion of an "Amazon basics" multi-colour logo on it does nothing for me, however and I hide that from view.

Amazon Basics GPS Dashboard Mount
The Amazon Basics GPS Dashboard Mount is very good in my car which has a centre dash cutout where the clock is, it sits well in there and only moves a little under heavy braking or cornering. I would imagine if you had a dashboard with a flat shiny surface it would slide about but I am pleased with mine. When parking the car it is easy to lift complete with sat-nav fold flat and place in any hidden storage in the car like glove box etc, and with no tell tale rings on windscreen.
