I love the mould king engine lineup. This one is no exception. Super fun build, not over challenging in any way for intermediate level builders and above. The value for the money is awesome as it has power functions and alot of detail. I actually have the even larger version of this same engine from mould king as well, (the silver one) and this was just as fun to build. All in all, highly recommended.

This is a very interesting and challenging kit that I have found to be very time-consuming because of the multitude of small parts. The first 71 steps have taken me 7 hours, and I consider myself an experienced builder. I am reviewing at this point because the first power test has been successfully completed, and I am unable, at this time, to put as much daily bench time on my agenda as I like.If there is any need to make any editorial changes on this review when I have completed the kit, I will make those changes and/or additions at that time.A parts list is not included, which would be very helpful and save much time, to know no parts are missing, before beginning the project and hoping nothing missing after completing many steps! I tend to sort like parts together, and then place the parts by step, to make sure none are missing; however, by the time I got ¾ of the way through the steps to place the parts, my head was tired and blank, so I kept losing count—fingers crossed at this point. (A parts list would have been very helpful and convenient.)Parts do fit together very well. I usually use thin cement to draw into the seams with capillary action for building block projects, but hesitated knowing this is a mechanical kit with many moving parts that cement should not be used.Instructions and some of the photos for placing the parts in a step were hard to see and, at times, hard to understand. I do like that each step has an inset to show which parts are needed for that step.I also think there needs to be more “checkpoints,” and text for checking how the gears are supposed to be functioning without the power supply—i.e. making sure they are meshed where needed, etc.Step 17—hard to know if those 2 parts are to be offset, so one of the cylinders fits in the groove of the other, or if the 4 cylinder shapes touch each other (that is what I did, trying to “assume” by the pictures, but then when the red part in step 18 was to be inserted, it has still left me questioning. The bottom view of the red part looks like the “+” should be straight up, but (1) Not sure where it is to be on the top of the assembly with parts from step 17; (2) then not told to test the gear shift until step 51. It did move, but not easily, and slow, medium, fast positions made no difference to the sound of the power supply, but the shifter did move. (Text indicating that maybe the power sound would be at different speed sounds or not would be helpful (?). I continued —at worst? I'll have to take some or many steps apart to troubleshoot.Insets showing rod length and exact placement of a gear on the rod was very helpful for those needed—e.g. Step 27. Also, showing a diagram of rod length(s) on each page that required a rod part is very helpful. (Often the rod lengths are only shown for length inside the cover, with the rod parts in a step only indicating the number length.)Be aware that the following steps indicated “plated” parts when, in fact, they were black:--Steps 159-161-164-165-167-169 which was annoying trying to find the plated parts after corresponding what plated parts were available to which step; then finding what was left to be black, despite steps indicating “plated.” More time consumed.As usual, despite the bags being numbered, one often has to open later bags to find parts for the previous bags; therefore bag parts are not in order. Typical of many building block kits, but still annoying.Price point is competitive.Challenge can be a good thing, but with the above issues corrected, this would still be a good challenge. At this time, I offer 4-stars.

really cool building block type model kit. I do a lot of Lego kits with my kids and use it as an opportunity to teach them about different mechanical things. This is one of my favorite projects for sure. Its challenging enough to take some time and attention. Not one of the simple throw it together kits you often see online. Being able to see all the parts move is so cool and such a great teaching tool. I have a pretty sound mechanical background but found this very interesting and I learned a few things myself. My 14 year old daughter loved it and probably understands how a V8 engine works better than most, if not all of her peers. Great kit and excuse to spend time with your kids or a fun project to work on by yourself. I think this kit is a bit advanced for younger kids. I would be hesitant to buy it for them unless they have a lot of patience and experience with Lego / building block assembly.
