Review: I’ve tried literally 20+ shampoos to try and tame my hair. I have particularly difficult hair (very thick combo curly/wavy, oily/frizzy medium porosity) and have been on a quest for shampoo that actually makes my hair manageable. This shampoo bar completely cleanses my hair of oil and product/mineral buildup and still manages to not strip my hair completely of moisture, which in turn makes my hair less likely to tangle and reduces frizz. I wouldn’t recommend this for everyday use but i only wash my hair once a week ideally to prevent hair damage. Within two weeks (two washes) I have noticed my hair is a lot more manageable and generally less oily. Even after a few days my hair is still not overly greasy. The bar has a mild citrus scent that is not overwhelming at all as approved by my scent sensitive family. The scent still lingers enough that I have gotten compliments two days after I’ve washed my hair about how it smells. The bar lathers absolutely incredibly, you only need a few passes of the bar through your hair and three seconds of scrubbing for it to start really foaming, my hair was undoubtedly engulfed in suds while I was washing. They are not exaggerating about the concentration of this bar- you really do need significantly less product than with conventional liquid shampoo. The only thing I really have any problem with is how soft the bar is. You have to be careful not to grip it too hard or scrape it with your nails or anything because it will dent. It doesn’t fall apart though! It can also take a fall in the bathtub as far as I can tell. For such a soft soap it’s important to keep it ventilated- a draining soap dish or equivalent is a must. Anyways, good product. Review: Not that this doesn't have enough positive reviews already, but it's really pretty spectacular. 10/10 would recommend and will be repurchasing. Reasons why this is the best stuff ever: IT WORKS. Which....enough said right? I've got thin, frizzy/wavy hair. It's bleach damaged and dyed over on the bottom, but oily on the top. I usually wash every other or every third day. The stuff I was using before was something my hairdresser scared me into purchasing after she did what she could for my ends. It set me back 70$ for shampoo and conditioner, which was obscene, and I still needed multiple after-shower products to get my hair to act right. Before trying these bars I felt like those were just going to be the consequences of having damaged my ends so badly, but I decided I really wanted to try a different product because, yikes. I've used the San Clemente shampoo and the Guardian conditioner for the last 3-4 months. I'm not going to say I have a whole new head of hair or it's magically thicker or anything like that, but it does look shiny and healthy. It dries wavy/curly like it's supposed to and not in the tortured part straight/part frizz/part curly beast nonsense it was doing with the other products. I don't have to put two after-shower oils into it to be able to brush it. Bottom line, this stuff works well at a price I'm willing to pay. But it's got a bunch of other cool stuff going for it too: Additional Reasons Ethique is the Greatest: - It lasts FOREVER. For real. I'm well past the 3 month mark and maybe about halfway through? I thought the three bottle thing was a massive exaggeration, especially after seeing the size of these bars, but it's really holding true for me. I sit it on the ledge in front of the window in my bathroom in a little silicone soap tray I got from WalMart for like 3 bucks that lets the bottom dry out, and that’s enough to keep it from melting. - It's natural and biodegradable- you can collect your grey water and use it in the garden. You can go camping and not feel guilty about washing your hair (not in a water source, folks). Packaging is 100 percent compostable. It's palm oil free and they try to get their ingredients from companies who treat their employees reasonably and use resources sustainably. They’re great. -Literally, the only green issue I've got is that there's obviously a significant carbon footprint associated with shipping it to me, but if I only have to order it twice a year (or once, if I stockpile?) I feel like it probably evens out? I'm not losing much sleep over it. - Super transportable. I can throw this in my duffle bag for the weekend. I can take this on a carry-on no problem. It takes up almost no space and represents months worth of cleanliness. Which is freaking fantastic, because I'm a college student and we're kind of migratory by nature. - SLS Free! Silicone Free! PH Balanced! My hair is frizzy. It's chemically damaged on the ends. It's thin. And the dye on my ends is hiding a lot of sins. I cannot afford to be messing around with these other bar shampoos made out of soap that are all really alkaline. Dito for the whole baking soda method. Or the ones from LUSH masquerading as good things that are secretly out to destroy you and strip all color from your hair. Or the drugstore shampoos that promise silkiness only because they’re piling the plastics on. It’s a good shampoo full of good stuff that smells nice and is nice to your hair. Go for it. It won’t work miracles, but It does the job it’s supposed to do really well.

Love this Shampoo Bar! It’s perfect for my oily scalp, and it gives my hair a truly deep clean without stripping it dry. The combination of lime and orange essential oils gives it a fresh, invigorating scent that lasts without being overpowering. It lathers like a dream—so much better than I expected from a bar, and I only need to swipe it a few times across my wet hair to get a nice, rich foam. The ingredients are amazing too! The castor oil works wonders at dissolving oils and sebum, while the glycerine keeps my hair soft and hydrated without feeling greasy. My hair feels lighter, cleaner, and has way more volume after use. I’m also loving how eco-friendly it is. The bar lasts a long time (at least 80 washes, which is like three bottles of liquid shampoo!), and the packaging is completely compostable. It feels good knowing I’m saving money and helping reduce plastic waste. Plus, it’s vegan, cruelty-free, and palm oil-free—there’s a lot of thought and care put into making this product. It’s definitely earned a permanent spot in my hair care routine! Highly recommend!

I was looking for a shampoo that addresses oily hair, wasn't super expensive, and wasn't in plastic. This checked all my boxes. It lathers super easy! I've used it about 7 times now, doesn't dry out my hair or scalp. Still pretty easy to brush through despite not using conditioner. Bottled shampoos always seemed to make my hair a snarly mess if I didn't use conditioner too. My only complaint is that I wish the scent was a little stronger. I LOVE the citrusy scent but it's very subtle.

A quick background on my hair... naturally straight, thin, blonde that is generally an oil slick a day after washing, at least with chemical/processed bottle shampoos. I had dreads for 2 years, which I combed out a year ago and have been dealing with the frazzled, dry damage that is my hair ever since. Most days my hair felt like straw. About 4 months prior to trying these bars, I began a no/low poo routine. I used baking soda and ACV rinses, but my hair still felt dry and damaged, but wasn't as oily and I could go a day or two before washing again. That's when I decided to look into other natural options that would actually care for my hair, like herbs. But I still wanted and needed something quick and easy for days that I just didn't have the time.... enter the Ethique Shampoo Bars! At first I bought the Tip to Toe bar, thinking that it would be a great 2-in-1 multitasking bar. And while the Tip to Toe bar has nice slip and works to shave with, it just isn't the best option for thin oily-prone hair like mine. Though it cleaned my hair (it is a soap afterall), it left my fine hair feeling weighed down, flat and limp. So I decided to revisit the listing and read through all of the reviews to see if another would be more appropriate for my hair type. Thanks to other customers, I had confidence enough to try St. Clements and I could not be happier or more satisfied that I did! After the FIRST wash with the new bar, I noticed and instant difference once my hair air dried. It felt lightweight, healthy, smooth, soft and even my dry damaged split ends were tame, smooth, soft and healthy looking & feeling!!! This bar is a rockstar. I'm not a huge fan of the scent, but it doesn't linger once the soap is rinsed and hair dries. But after the results that I got, I wouldn't want this shampoo recipe to be altered, EVER. About every 2-3 days I wash my hair and I alternate using these bars or making a fresh mixture of Aritha (soapnuts), Bramhi powder, Marshmallow Root powder and honey. Other than when I was a little kid and had zero damage to my hair yet, I believe this may be the first time in nearly 15 years that my hair has looked or felt so damn healthy! If I wasn't trying to live a more minimal lifestyle, I'd probably be inclined to stock up on this bar for fear that it may sell out or that the company would alter the recipe in the future. The bar was packaged in a recyclable paper/cardstock type box (plus), but the shipper (not the manufacturing company) mailed the item in a plastic lined bubble mailer, which is always disappointing as I can't recycle that where I live. (Please stop using plastics.) I'd love to see more of the new padded Amazon mailers being used that are 100% recyclable. My only other qualm would be that yes, these bars do "melt" quickly when exposed to water. So I've learned not to leave mine in the shower or in direct exposure of water spray and I allow them to dry on a bamboo soap dish on my counter. If you're on the fence, give it a try, you will not be disappointed.
