I was given this book over 25 years ago as a gift. It has never left my side. This book predates some of the fad self-improvement concepts and strikes to the heart of living a successful and fulfilling life; working hard, pursuing your dreams, treating yourself and others with respect, and being gracious in both victory and defeat. I now give it frequently as a gift with the hope it will impact others the way it impacted me.

Mostly sports based, but also from great leaders, inventors, and others. They cover the values and work ethics that contribute to a vital culture. Every young person should read this. There are not many around, however, so if you find one, buy it.

Used this book as a graduation gift for many year for my wrestling team members. Would have used it many more years but it went out of print.

This is a must read for any athlete, leader, or otherwise. Great book by a great coach! I wish the book was still in print.

This is a book of compiled stories and quotes by primarily athletic high achievers. It is a good place to find some snippets to motivate yourself and others. I had heard how Tim Tebow carries this book with him and how other players have used it to push themselves past roadblocks but it is not some great oracle of wisdom, it is a book of quotes. The hype of the book is greatly overblown. It is useful, but not that special in my opinion. You can find many such books and stories of inspiration in other books and articles. I didn't spend hundreds of dollars, so I am okay with my purchase, but it is underwhelming.
