Essential item for bridging the technical divide
This is one of this little items that's nice to have if, say, you buy a newer laptop (Mac or Windows) that only have USB-C ports, but you still have an older pair of EarPods or other, wired headphones that you want to still use. This item works fine, it makes old tech work with new tech just like you'd want it to.l

Poor implementation of the TRRS standard
This has a few flaws:1. If you unplug the headphone cable from the adapter, it does NOT signal to the device to stop playback. This is expected: other adapters (and built-in headphone ports) do stop playback in this case.2. If you plug in a cable or headset that does NOT have a microphone into the adapter, it does NOT allow you to use the built-in microphone. This is expected: other adapters (and built-in headphone ports) detect that the attached headset is only TRS and therefore has no microphone, which allows the device to fall back to its internal microphone. As a result, this adapter cannot be used to make a call because the other side cannot hear (and there is no way to resolve this from the device's settings).

Doesn't work with android as a headphone adapter.
Not sure how to rate this. We tried using it as a headphone adapter for a newer Samsung phone with no audio jack. It does goofy things like advance to the next video repeatedly. Is this an issue with the cable, or I just got the wrong cable? I don't know. Don't get it as a headphone adapter for an android phone.

Works fine, nice grippy texture and design
For me, what makes this item stand-out from the competition is that instead of having the "usual" simple plastic cord covering, this item has a textured, rough, woven style surface that gives it a nice, "grippy", non-slippery feel. The connector end also differs from the competition in having grip ridges along the sides to make the connector easier to remove, especially if your fingers aren't dry.
