Why does the box say that it is only available through a vet and yet it is being sold here?  While I would prefer to pay less by buying it directly rather than through the vet, it concerns me that the boxes specifically say it's only available through vets.

These are over the counter now. There were reports about counterfeit Proviable DC being sold by private sellers on Amazon. Check the Nutramax website. I will not buy Proviable probiotics or the kit with paste from Amazon or eBay. You can get them from 1800 Vet Meds or other reliable places. Chewy has been the place I've bought them for many years since my first Proviable purchase was from a vet.

Question 2

What is the source of this product?  my vet told me that proviable sold on amazon is often counterfit. how do i know this product is not a counterfit?

I am still waiting for a response from amazon but the box definitely has some slight differences compared to what I bought from my vet that I have in hand. Also, Nutramax said Amazon is NOT an authorized seller. I had my dog on this one from amazon. No improvements and he was even sick twice during that time with no identified cause. I have purchased it from my vet recently and the difference is night and day. I know its not worth the risk for me. I have seen the results and will only buy from my vet now

Question 3

If I buy the 80 count, how do I know if will still be within the expiration date for my one pet?

I just ordered one - it arrived today - and the exp date is April 2017. Since there are caps 80 in a box, and I give one cap a day, I'll use up the box well before 4/17.  Assuming yours has a similar exp date, you and your pet should be ok.

Question 4

Does anyone know if this has chicken or any other protein based flavoring, etc.?  I have a cat that is on arestricted diet...

- I called the company to find out this information.  The outer casing of the Proviable Capsule (the gel capsule itself, _not_ the powdered ingredients inside) is made from gelatin. Gelatin is derived from collagen, obtained from a variety of animal-by-products - so this could be an allergy/tolerance concern. However, since you can open the capsule and add the dry contents to food, your pet does not have to eat the gelatin capsule. There are no protein sources in the powder itself.Ingredients Capsule:Dried Bifidobacterium bifidum Fermentation Product, Gelatin, Yeast Extract, fructooligosaccharide, Gum Arabic, Dried Enterococcus faecium Fermentation Product, Dried Streptococcus thermophilus fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus bulgaricus Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus acidophilus Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus casei Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus plantarum Fermentation Product, and Titanium Dioxide.
