Don't Hate, Don't Love
The most interesting part of this book is the Estonian technique section. The selection of yarns used in the projects: socks, gloves, & mittens over & over again, is escoteric to say the least. I realize this book is dated & yarns come & go but even when this book was current only the Koigo Merino was (& is) widely available. No useful information about the yarns is provided which would enable the knitter to substitute--no wpi, no Yarn Standards. The author mentions the knitting of pullovers including the cast on used but no pullover project or photo or even a description is provided. There are only a couple of dozen of color charts all of which I've seen before. If I had had this book in hand before buying, I probably would've passed it by.

A LOT of information - starting from beginners to charts & written patterns.
Estonian color work is akin to fair isle patterns .. but less โfloralโ and more geometric.

Good for your knitting library
I love Nancy Bushman. There is a lot of history and very interesting background in this book. Her directions are clear and the patterns beautiful.

Not your run of the mill book
It was exactly what my wife wanted. She is an avid knitter and was looking for something unique.

I haven't had the time to spend quietly reading all the wonderful historical information
Book arrived promptly. I haven't had the time to spend quietly reading all the wonderful historical information, but I am looking forward to that day. If you like Estonia knitting and history, I think this book would be a great addition to your knit book library.

History of Estonia knitting and instructions with patterns were found to be exceptional.
I was looking for a book about Estonia and its brief history of knitting and I was also impressed by the knitting instructions and patterns included.

FINE knitting
Just about all the patterns are worked on 2.25mm needles - this is something you need to be aware of, I think.patterns are very traditional, as you would expect. Author has tried to provide authentic patterns, or stay within the Estonian knitting tradition.Good opportunities to try new techniques are provided, with instruction.Too many mitten patterns for my taste - I would convert these into glove patterns, or reduce their number, to replace them with more sock patterns - or how about a little hat or cap?It really is just socks, mitts and gloves, nothing else.

A treat to read and to keep
Most interesting - not only because of the knitting but also because of the cultural insights. It's a real pleasure to 'dip into' this book. Lovely illustrations.
