I’ve been working on my landscape trying to get it right. I usually plant flowers just for them to eventually die on me. This time, I decided to go with potted flowers. I had plans to be gone for a week and was concerned about my plants dying in this heat while I was away. I didn’t want to inconvenience anyone by having them come by and water them. After some research, I opted to use these spikes. And oh my God. They worked perfectly.I took different advice from the many reviews. One, I soaked the spikes first so that they would already be damp. Two, I wet the pots so the spikes would screw in easily. Three, I filled the spikes before placing the bottles. Lastly, I strategically placed the glass wine bottle so that the sun was not beaming directly on them. I did use one plastic bottle that the syrup for mixed drinks comes in. No issues with either.I filled them on a Monday. That following Sunday when I returned, the bottles were empty and the flowers were blooming. I wish I had thought to do this before because going outside everyday fighting mosquitos and the heat to water the flowers just wasn’t it. I will continue to use them. It’s one of my best purchases.

I am really enjoying these! They came very nicely packaged. I imagine that I will take them inside for the winter because of what freezing does to wet tera cotta. But they do an nice job keeping plants watered for a few days while you are away.

I think they saved my long time, much loved indoor (mostly) plants when we left for a 4 week trip to tour national parks! The leaves were drooping some at the end of the 4 weeks, but perked right up after one watering!! I have saved them just in case we get the RV itch again!. Sorry that I didn’t take pictures of the plants, but wasn’t thinking about writing a review when I got home after 4 weeks! 🙁

Work great to keep plants healthy when going on vacation (or jsut as a backup to erratic watering). I use plastic Pellegrino bottles which are green so you don't really notice them in the pot.

These particular spikes are a bit harder than some, and the water lasts a bit longer with these spikes than with others. In addition, as mentioned, they are baked harder and will withstand a bit of clunking and jostling that will easily break other softer spikes. You can pair these with a 16, 32 or 52 ounce plastic bottle, sealed with Lexel (won't leak) and they perform admirably when used in close proximity to the root ball.

These have been working great so far! I’ve been testing them ahead of an upcoming trip, and I’m pretty impressed. I’m in Southern California and have been monitoring them over a 4-day period in May. This is how full the glass bottles have stayed after 4 days. The water usage seems reasonable, and they’ve kept the soil moist, especially when I water the plants before inserting them.While I originally bought these for vacation use, I plan to keep using them daily to cut back on having to water every day. www The soil isn’t soaking wet, and it’s hard to tell exactly how much water is being released, but my plants look happy and healthy—not underwatered at all.During the peak summer months, especially with thirstier plants like tomatoes, there could be some limitations. But even then, using these for 2 or 3 days instead of watering twice a day is a big help.So far, so good! I may buy more and would definitely recommend them.

Did a wonderful job on 20 large plants while on vacation! Saved the day, didn’t have to have anyone come in an eater for 2 weeks.
