Some Very Good Solid Recipes That You Can Set and Forget
I don't review cookbooks often but I crockpot something at least once a week before I run off to work so the hubs and I won't have to worry about cooking when we get home.I've tried a variety of recipes in this book and have found them to be easy to follow, mostly with ingredients we have on hand and with the exception of one that I hated they have all been pretty coolMy only caveat is I make them in an instapot since many have a searing step or sautรฉ step at the start. My crockpot doesn't do that and the last thing I want is one more dish to clean.Winter is coming and I'll be dipping into the soups and stew listed in this book as well as some of the comfort desserts. If you like crockpotting or have an instapot there are some solid easy recipes to be found here.

Toss out your other slow cooker books
With the popularity and convenience of slow cooking on the rise, and the many sleek varieties of the good old fashioned crock pot out on the market, itโs no wonder southern cooking has jumped on the braise all day band wagon. That, and itโs awful hot in the south and sometimes just better to leave the oven off. Nashvillian Algood, author of Farm Fresh Southern Cooking, presents a voluminous array of slow cooked southern meals, uniquely categorized by ingredient and food type. Also included are smart tips for ensuring correct use of your slow cooker, as well as conversion instructions to turn your oven meals into slow cooked ones. Chapters are specific to one main ingredient, like eggplant, carrot, peach, beans, and pumpkin, just to name a few. Protein chapters include pork, beef, turkey, eggs, lamb, seafood, ham, lamb, and chicken. There is even an entire chapter dedicated to chocolate, and one for grits. The chili chapter alone is worth the price of this book, as it features 15 variations of chili, including a vegetarian wheat berry chili. Recipes use fresh and easily accessible ingredients, and do not rely on processed creamed soups, dry spice envelopes, or heavy sauces. For the chic foodie, try the Southern Kale Lasagna and Wine Poached Pears, or the Toasted Coconut Chicken Thighs with German Chocolate Walnut Cake. My other slow cooker books have not been opened since I received this one. It is creative and comprehensive enough to replace all the others.

Good for making lots of food for large groups of people
The directions are easy to follow and the things I've made so far have been delicious. My main complaint is that it never specifies what counts as a small, medium, or large slow cooker. I found that a full recipe for a medium slow cooker fits in my 3.5 quart and a full recipe for a large slow cooker fits in my mom's 6 quart. It would have been nice if she had included some conversions since most people only have one slow cooker. Also, the reliance on canned soups makes it hard to adjust the recipes for smaller quantities. I'd rather not have half a can of soup sitting around in my fridge after I've made a dish, you know? I think she assumes the owner of the cookbook will be someone cooking for a large family who needs recipes on hand for large social gatherings. I'm usually only cooking for myself and maybe one other person.

Easy use + Helpful hints!
This is the perfect size for me..not big and bulky when I want to have it sitting open while using. Recipes easy to find since each chapter is not crammed with 500 recipes. Happily, a lot of recipes that I had forgotten about! Nothing in this book, I would say, is hugely involved..but you do need to have more than one slow cooker. Since I do use them already, I do have a couple different sizes... but I think you could also modify the recipes to fit what you have. She does give helpful instructions on converting regular recipes :)

Makes me want to start using my slow cooker again!
I loved this book! So many recipes I want to try like the turkey with peanuts as well as the turkey with curry (I'm on a turkey kick at the moment). The chili with the pumpkin sounded good as well as the cobblers, corn casseroles, etc. The last cookbook I read was the "Gilmore Girls" cookbook, which, in addition to download problems, didn't have as many recipes as I thought it would. This one had a lot and I'd rather try the author's slow cooker version of ratatouille and mac and cheese than the ones in the "Gilmore Girls" cookbook. I got this book for my Kindle app, but I'd love to have it in paperback. Makes me want to get out the slow cooker and start cooking!

A UniqueAddition To Your Slow Cooker Cookbook Collection
A nice slow cooker cookbook. Each category features recipes for 1 food item (carrots, cherries, cabbage, corn, etc.). There are recipes for entrees to desserts. It's a different cookbook and nice to have on hand especially if you want a quick reference for a certain food item.

Best southern slow cooker book!
Great, great. I grew up in the South and have been disappointed in the slow cooker books claiming to have recipes from this region. This book is the real deal and also presents new recipes that I can't wait to try. There are so many familiar recipes that have been converted for slow cooking.I like the format of the recipe presentation. The chapters focus on a main ingredient: Berries, Chicken, Greens, Peaches, Peas.... Within each chapter are all sorts of recipes showcasing the main ingredient, everything from appetizers to cobbler. Looking forward to cooling down my kitchen this summer but still eating fresh and delicious meals. The recipes are not just for summer, there are dishes for all seasons.

Fabulous cookbook!
Love the outlay and how itโs sectioned. So many recipes! Not all are exactly southern though. Iโve only tried two - one turned out fantastic but the other one was a bit bland.
