Are these fountains fish safe?

No, not safe for fish. Although you put in distilled water, you have to add an algaecide and cleanser to the water periodically. And the fountain is not that deep.

How loud is the motor? (For a home meditation piece, I would expect the motor to be entirely silent within the polished bronze.)

The motor is quiet but the fountain dribbles for me it is not a heavy flow. Itb does look good though.

Has anyone had luck making the water fall a bit louder?

No it seem's that the water flow needs to be a lil stronger and i was looking into replacing the pump. The waterflow is trickling at best.
