It's hard to find a book that does what this does which is to list all the various percussion instruments from various places in the world with a brief explanation of what they are. Good index at the back, the printing is small and the picos are a little faded but this is a work that took some real effort to compile. 95 pages and out of print possibly. It was bought because we had a Roland Handsonic HPD15 which has 600 sounds and a lot of ethnic sounds so we'd be looking at one of the instruments and thinking what on earth is it? So we needed something we could quickly look up. The subtitle of the book is 'Translations, Descriptions and Photography of Percussion Instruments from Around the World'. Here is an example entry'Wooden FishA series of five rounded or squared blocks of wood that are hollowed out and struck with a soft mallet. Traditionally tuned to a pentatonic scale. Also known as Chinese Temple Blocks, dragons mouths, fish drums, Korean blocks or temple blocks. See picture #31'
