Good trail shoe
I've been looking for a good trail shoe at local stores. They seem to have very few choices if any. And if they have anything I like, chances are likely not my size. I hesitated to order on line as I often try several shoes on and nothing fits well. I ordered wide. And these are definitely wide. I can easily wear heavier socks if needed. On the could trail walks I've been on, the tread is very good. Comfort very good. And definitely good arch support. My feet felt terrific after my walk.

Wore down before I thought
So I have had these a while. I liked them ok. Fit reg size 8 perfect fit. They broke in easy. I got extra insoles for them. They were a bit harder than id like but overall comfortable. A year later their feels like there's something in the right shoe near the toes but the seems are worn. I do wear them mostly every day but I'm still surprised the seems are popping out in the toe line like that. So it's a slight annoyance. The first six months were good. A bit dissatisfied with how fast the wear and tear is coming now. Merrill usually makes better quality products. My last ones I had three years. But I still give it four stars for the first six months. Not bad. Especially if they aren't your mostly every day shoes.

Best made shoes, durable!!
Just love these shoes. Second pair. This color is my favorite. Good looking shoes and extremely durable especially if you work outside. They are comfortable and make my feet feel protected. I broke my foot in four places four years ago and this shoe just holds my foot firmly. Just a great all around shoe.

The best shoe purchase I've ever made!
I've never bought hiking boots/shoes before, and I've never bought Merrell shoes before, so I can't say if the quality is the same as it has always been, but compared to my new balance sneakers these are to die for! I was afraid that buying Merrell shoes was more of a trend for hikers, but now I know that it's because they really are quality shoes. I bought these because I knew we were going hiking in West Texas and I wanted to make sure I had good grip and support in my shoes. These shoes have the best grip I've ever experienced! I was able to walk on slippery, slimy river rocks and smooth rock, with loose stones on top, at a 45 degree angle with ease. Literally no slipping period. I felt confident walking on any terrain for our entire trip. We walked 20+ miles in a few days and I have to say that my feet did hurt, but not because of a lack of support. I think my feet were just tired. I'm usually pretty sedentary. My arches never hurt, and the support in these shoes is also the best arch support I've ever experienced. I have a very high arch so I didn't feel like the arch support was perfectly snug with my arch but it was plenty. The only thing that bothered me when I first wore them was the snugness of the padding overall. It felt great because my foot felt stable and well supported, and I had plenty of room all around, but the cushioning in the top of the shoe where I laced them up felt like it was cutting off circulation. So i just didn't tie them very tight. I also had thick socks so that didn't help. After a couple of days this went away. I also have to say that I have never been able to tie my laces only once. I have always double knotted, but these laces never ever came undone even with one knot. And I walked a lot. Up and down mountains and kicking up stones. I would definitely buy these again, and I'm planning on buying these for my teenage daughters as well instead of wasting money on Nike or NB which have no support and no tred!

Well made
Just received and worn once. The fit is true to size and the construction is sturdy. It’s truly made for hiking and that what I purchased it for. Love them.

I normally love merrell, they fit well and are usually very comfortable
I’ve already owned a few Merrills and have liked them a lot; they fit well, quality materials, but this has been strange because the shoe size 11 which i normally wear, and is a bit big for me but I need the length, is very wide in the toes. 10 1/2 didn’t quite fit which I thought would, was wide in the toes too, and for all the Merrell shoes I’ve ever worn or tried on this is the most uncomfortable foot bed they’ve ever put in a shoe. It’s the insert and it’s hard! What’s strange is that the last shoe I ordered was actually leather and this one looks like it was punched out of artificial material and it also doesn’t say leather on the label anymore? What’s that about? I love the tread, and color, but they don’t run large like everyone said, but wide. Amazon charges manipulated pricing which makes shopping with them less desirable but the ordering and returns work nicely. I decided for the money to go waterproof esp. after reading you cannot waterproof the material yourself. So I ordered brindle and, the 11 fits much smaller, but might still work. I have to change out the inserts, ( hard). I’m debating between it and Columbia which has a somewhat softer bed, and wider fit. The Merrell has a little flaw on it but might not be a big issue. Quality is not the same as before. Certainly not comfort and consistency. Why doesn’t the label say leather anymore? My other Merrill’s are very comfortable to walk in. These require different inserts, and at least, and some breaking in? Still an overall nice design. Think I’ll try to find more out about the leather upper that doesn’t say anything anymore.
